Should I update my wii?
Hello, I'm new to the wii, had it for 2 years. I currently have fireware 3.1U. I just connected to the wireless internet and asking me to update my wii. I want to be able to put homebrew and make modes as I learn so my question is...Should I update the wii? My current is 3.1U and I believe the new update is 4.2. Should I do it or leave it alone?
If someone could help me I would greatly appriciate feedback! Pro's and cons. Thanks!
No i wouldnt. if it aint broke dont fix it
Do not update your wii to 4.2 . If you want to update go to 4.1 using this guide.

So I should update to 4.1 using the wiihacks link you provided? There is no cons to doing so? I don't want to do the upgrade to 4.1 than regreat that I did it latter on. Since I'm new to the modes and hacks, etc It's going to take me time to learn how to put homebrew on than maybe do a mod chip, etc.
Like I said I don't want to learn something next month and than regreat I updated to 4.1. I can see from your response going to 4.2 is bad because it's mostly about blocking modes and hacks.
Any other insight I'd appriciate and I thank you for help
Update to 4.1?
I just want to make sure 1st, I should update to 4.1? Like I said I'm at 3.1U right now. If someone could tell me pro's? I know I can't get on the wii channel right now, it's telling me I have to update so I have to update but if I do it through wii it will update to 4.2 so I should do the 4.1 guide?
dr34m3r's right if you so want to update go to 4.1 not 4.2. The 4.2 update gave a lot of headaches to Wii users.
On 4.1, you'll be able to use the SD Menu feature. I recently downloaded the Check Mii Out channel from the Wii Shop Channel, I saved it on the SD Card so as not to use anymore extra space on my Wii.
I'm not a hardcore Wii user, I just basically use it for playing games so I don't know what else will be new after the 4.1 update.
Don't use the official update from Nintendo because of the possibillity that it might brick your Wii specially if your Wii has been modded.
Follow the guide posted by dr34m3r or use this: Modify any Wii 4.2 & below - GBAtemp.net
I used the latter, I was on 3.2 when I upgraded to 4.1
Just read the instructions carefully
I'm a pain, I know
I know I'm a pain but hope this could clear it up. Like I said I have the 3.1U Should I follow the (New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii) by dogeggs or the one (Modify any Wii 4.2 & below - GBAtemp.net) that gypsygirl13 said or the (ULTIMATE System Menu Guide -edited june 7/22/09) by assassda?
There are 3 choices and don't understand which to follow. I bought this wii new 2 years ago and it's never been connected to internet till 2 days ago and has the 3.1U.
It seems the more I read, the more overwhelmed I get. I need or want to get this updated very very soon because my son wants me to buy him games through the wii channel or how ever else I can do it. Right now on the 3.1U it won't let me connect, and I can only use the news and weather channel. No shopping!
Anyhow, if anyone has an opionon what guide to use or the best please respond. Thanks and sorry for being so damn dumb when it comes to this stuff!

Yes follow the 3.1-4.1 guide and update to 4.1 or 3.2, which ever you prefer. 4.1 will allow you to load wiiware to a sd card and use up to 32g card.
New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii
Hopefully last question
Ok, I'm following the softmode 3.1-4.1 by dogegg.
I downloaded the 24.47 mb file on a 1 gig sd card
and inserted in the wii and said load boot.dol/elf
I didn't hit yes yet because one question. After loading this
I'll be on 4.1? Like I said I'm on 3.1U right now.
This guide will update me to 4.1 and let me use the shop channel?
Just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. Thanks for any help!
