Just need some clarification on some stuff

ok so I am a super newb to this. I decided to softmod my Wii at about 5pm today and I successfully have installed the homebrew channel through the Bannerbomb hack, I have yet to add any games or apps because I still have some questions. So I installed it in a rush and did the IOS install of BootMii, should I go back and reinstall it as the boot2 install? Would the easiest way to do that be just delete the homebrew channel and reinstall the whole thing. Also I haven't used my Wii in a while so it has a pretty old software (Version 3.3U) should I update my system and then reinstall? Also I have been looking around for backups to play and am not sure if I need PAL or NTSC versions, or if it even makes a difference for softmods. And if region matters I'm in the USA.

Thanks for any input, and sorry if these are common questions I spent some time reading FAQs and didn't find any answers.

As you have a 3.3Wii, you should be following the softmod guide for any 3.1-4.1Wii. Bootmii would have identified the installtion options available on your Wii. You can check to see of boot2 is available, go to HBC, press the Home button and you shouod see the bootmii option on the menu screen. If boot2 is available for you, take it and make a NAND backup.

3.3 and 3.4 Wiis should go ahead and update to 4.1 as recommended in the softmod tutorial. You will then be able to use Preloader hacks to protect your Wii,

Your Wii is NTSC, you can play out-of-region games by changing settings in your backup game loader. Preloader can be used to prevent game disc updates.

As you already have HBC and bootmii, you can skip thos installtion steps of the tutorials's Step 1.

Do not update your system, you will be doing that in Step 4 to update to 4.1. If you update using the online Nintendo update you will be updated to 4.2-not as good or as easy to softmod.

Oh, didn't notice this was your first post:

Hello and welcome to the wiihacks community.

I know you are anxious to get started; but, there are a few items to cover before you post your questions or start doing anything to your Wii.

Make sure you read the rules of this site. There are a number of tutorials and guides available to assist you. Many of our new members find the tutorials for softmodding any 3.1-4.1 Wii particularly useful. Make sure to either look through the site tutorials and guides or use the search function before asking questions. While the moderators, staff, and members of this community are willing to help you, some effort on your part to read, research, and follow the rules is expected. To get the best response to your question(s), post in the associated forum areas. This is very important as inappropriate posting could get you restricted to the reading room or even banned. If, after looking at the tutorials and trying to search, you still need help or just want to post a very basic type of question, go to the http://www.wiihacks.com/wiihacks-newbie-corner/.

Wiihacks also has a chat room on irc://irc.uicn/wiihacks. After reading the irc rules, please feel free to join in the light-hearted chats and activities. While any irc client can connect to #wiihacks on the UICN, ChatZilla, for those with Mozilla’s Firefox browser, is easy to install and use.

If this site and our members have provided substantive help, you can Donate to the forum and get a nice banner under your name and gain access to the donator forums.

Good luck with your softmod. Enjoy your stay with us.
