USB Loader GX with External Hard drive, random freeze-ups

I have a 4.2U system that I used Messie's tut to mod. So that puts it on cios38rev14 I think. I'm using a Western Digital 2500BEV external usb hard drive. I'm having random freeze ups and black screens on alot of the games I transferred using WBFS 3.0 and load them with USB Loader GX.

I can take the same ISO's and burn them and they work fine. A perfect example is Punch Out. I played alot using a backup created from an ISO, then when I starting using USB Loader, I transferred the same ISO to the hard drive and it locks up randomly. Same with Dead Space Extraction.

Also it seems that if I transfer a retail copy by putting it in the wii and transferring it that way that it works much better. I did this with my retail copy of Mario Galaxy and it worked no problem. The Wii is a NTSC as are 99% of the ISO's I have.

The partition is primary and marked active in Disk Management.

Any ideas? Any better USB Loader to use with 4.2u? I heard someone say something about a Customizable USB Loader but I'm not sure what that is.

USB Loader GX has gone through a bad run of rrevisions due to some change in some development tool. Revision 785 precedes the problems and revisions made after 803 are reported to work.mIf you wish to update to the most recent revision-go into the USBLoaderGX settings-there is an update setting.

Other USB Loaders that you can explore is configurable USB Loader and uLoader 3.0.

All do the same thing with stronger features in some areas than others.

Thank you! So I just replace the.dol file with the newest version correct, or will just doing the network update accomplish this?

either will update your app-getting the appropriate version dol file from the website or using the network update setting. Your choice. Hope it works-good luck.

Thanks all my games are running much better now (so far). I did the network update. Only thing I'm having problems with is the Metroid Trilogy iso, i tell it which DOL to boot and it gives me a error reading disk message.

I've actually got a very similar problem on a nearly identical setup. My games freeze very rarely, but it has happened, until I tried playing dead space....

I can't play that game for crap, it freezes 2 minutes in, every time.

Using a different USB cable fixed the problem, maybe it will help you. and check this out for metroid prime, its a bit of a trouble game..
