Hi All,

Long Post Alert !!!! :o

Ok i have just bought a UK Wii and lovin it :D, been on it quite a bit so have wii fit channel and some saved Mii's and other game saves..

details are
Serial no# LEH273*******
FW 4.0e

so my goal is to install softmod and play games from usb hard drive (hate the disks thing).

so ive read the tut on 3.1 - 4.1 and all seems clear have the files needed and sd card, but before i start i would like to clear up a couple of things that may be specific to my scenario,,,,,

1] do i have to remove all saves and channels from Wii before i start ----reset it to new? or will it ignore such things (is this what "A virgin Wii" means ? or is virgin Wii one that has never had any bits of softmodding on it )

2] i realise that mine probably has the chipset that will not play dvdr's but if i want to play via usb hardrive should i be ok once the TUT is followed and completed ?

3] should i upgrade to 4.1 or 4.2 before softmodding ? or complete softmod and upgrade later ? or just softmod and then never upgrade ? :(

1]no you don't leave everything as is

2]everything should be fine as long as you have a compatible external USB [you can find a compatibility chart on these forums]

3]NO!!! don't upgrade, unless the tutorial says to upgrade using the included "safe" upgrader. NO! official updates, make sure to turn WiiConnect24 OFF

got a WD my passport essential 320gb on order

you dont need to delete stuff, unless the guide says you need "xxx" number of slots free etc.

After following the guide you will be able to play DVDR and USB.

There is a big thread about which USB drives work (your WD passport should be fine from what i can remember)

The guide has an optional part to update to 4.1 using the updater, this is safe, but not essential, 4.1 will give you access to SDHC and the ability to run WiiWare/VC from your SD card. DO NOT update to 4.2. NEVER accept a disc update. NEVER use an official online update.

As long as you read the guide, read it again, read it again, understand it, read it some more, THEN do EVFERYTHING it says, in the correct order, you will be fine.
