    Help with Soft Modding

So I downloaded one of those soft mod kits and put it on my 4gb SD card. I believe my system at the time was a 4.0 U, I did step-by-step instructions in the text file of what I downloaded. Then everything was going good but I think I messed up a step, my first question is it ok to start form step 1 again and redo everything? Also I already had the HBC on my wii prior, does that matter or will it just reinstall over what I already had when I soft mod. Anyways, I redid all the steps correctly then I burned a game I downloaded from btjunkie, it was a .iso and NTSC. I burned it on a DVD-RW and with Toast Titanium 8 which I'm not sure is the right way. But when I put it in the Wii and powered on preloader started and says can't find hack.ini not in fat or NAND, is that because I have a 4gb card and I downgraded so it won't recognize the 4gb now? Then when I just exited to the main wii menu it couldn't recognize the game, is that because it is an RW and/or because I burned it with Toast 8? Sorry for this big mess but believe me I really tried to find the answers on here and Google and I'm lost as you can tell. I now have DVD+R, that was gonna be my next step and I'm buying a 2 GB SD card after work which will be my last step. Please help me! Thanks in advance.

It is usually ok to repeat installation. If you downgraded you will need an sd card 1-2 gigs or upgrade to 4.1 (I think). You should not burn onto rw and probable should ditch the titanium toast. Use ImgBurn and verbatim dvd -r. You will also need a loader such as gammaloader to launch the game, but it would be best just to drop the idea of dvds and load everything from a usb drive.

Thanks mauifrog, in search of a mac version of imgburn i found a site where i can simply just use disk utility. Do you know if DVD+R work? Also, I'm not sure if the package I downloaded came with a loader or not? Can I just download one from the HBC? Also once I get the loader, what is the process of actually playing the backed-up game? Just insert into the Wii and open it from the actual Wii menu? Sorry for all the ?'s but I get so frustrated with this stuff that I normally can figure out just by myself and googling haha.

It's definately ok to start all over again, you should actually just do this http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html from step 1

As far as burning games, -R's are the only ones [at least that i found] that the Wii will read [unless you have a hardware mod]. Also as long as it's in joliet [iso] 9660 the burnt game should be fine.

Some dvd r+ will work, but it is said that r+ may make the drive work harder and possible in time break down sooner.

What did you install on your wii?

    Here is neogamma r7

Here is USB Loader GX r808

You will launch these loaders from the HBC, you could also install a channel for them, or set preloader to launch to them on boot.

Not sure how you modded your wii, but here is an excellent guide for <4.1 system menu
New 3.1-4.1 Softmod for ANY Wii

You could try Burn for your mac, but I have know idea- good reviews

I installed the same files on this site Wii 4.0 softmod hack (NO ZELDA NEEDED) at Vertor shown on the bottom. Basically, WadManager1.4, DowngradeIOS35, cIOScorp1.01, preloaderv0.29, etc... I am gonna buy some Verbatim DVD-R's and a Sandisk 2GB SD card. I'm pretty sure the guide that I used, although not as good as the one that is found here on wiihacks (i didn't know about this site until today) will still work. From what I understand about Cioscorp is that is replaces the original IOS and I never backed them up so I really can't start from scratch, I really appreciate you guys for helping me through this, and I will work on it some more with the right stuff, DVD and card, and we will see if it works! I will post about it tonight. Thanks again.

mauifrog, if you look at that site I posted above, basically I just unrared the files at the bottom of that page and copied them right on the SD card, am i still going to need the neogamma? Or is it similiar to the Cioscorp i did. The readme file said that once all the steps are completed that I would be good to go and can load games right in the normal game window...

With cIOScorp you will be able to load your game from the wii disk channel, so you many not need a loader. But I think you may get a 002 error with v1.01 cIOScorp on newer games, that looks old as there is a v3.4.- if that happens you can still load it with the loader.

If I were you I would skip the money on the disks and buy an external hd, set preloader to load usb loader gx and you won't need to get up off the couch to change games, really really cool loader. Plus usb reads faster than disks so you won't have any of the stutter found in some games, and no bad burns.

Could you recommend a good one and I will maybe just buy it on Amazon, if I get one is all that crap I just put on my Wii for nothing? What do you do then just copy the iso images right to a root on the hard drive? That does sound alot easier! And in btjunkie I see alot of Pal and NTSC, I'm near Chicago so should I only just mess with NTSC files. Thanks.

Well first off the hardrive has to be compatible, if you search the forums there should be a compatibility guide for externals, secondly the harddrive has to be formatted in WBFS [the Wii file system] then you use something like WBFS Manager which will load the games right onto the hard drive [it will also format the drive and scrub the ISO so no updates will be loaded], and yes it is much easier then burning games, you will have artwork for the games as well as information for the games.

WiiFlooder, USB Loader GX, NeoGamma, and WiiFlow can all load from USB [i use WiiFlow right now (switched from USB Loader GX)] and i love it.
