Upgrade from Twilight hack??

Hello everyone. I'm new to the scene but I'm confused about my current situation. I read the faqs thoroughly and know exactly how to softmod my Wii, that's not the problem. About a year and a half ago I soft modded my wii using the Twilight Hack. Worked pretty well. I did the hack, played with the homebrew channel, and then never touched it again, in fact I put it in my attic when we moved to our new home.

Now I pulled it back out and started playing Mario Galaxy (awesome game) that I bought but never played 10 minutes into (I just had lasik surgery and have a week off work).

I want to update my softmod to the lastest. My current Wii version says 3.0U. Honestly I don't know the versions that much nor the lingo around here (which I can learn).

My question is what is the best way to go from the Twilight Hack to just the current hacks (the main one from the sticky). What are the benefits of doing so?

search for waninkoko's 4.1 updater this will wipe you clean of any previous mods

wanikoko's updater is intended to update and NOT remove any softmods.

You can still run it, which will take you to 4.1, if thats what you need.

If everything is running fine as it is then there is no need to update, all you will gain really is the ability to use SDHC and the ability to copy WiiWare/VC to SD card.

I was actually just about to edit my post stating that. :P sorry for the mis quoting of my information. An official Nintendo Update will wipe you clean.

Ok I may just update to official 4.2 first and then softmod from there, that was the original plan if 4.2 is hackable. But now I'm reading its recommended NOT to update to 4.2 if you are below it (which currently I am). Seems like it would be easier to just update to 4.2 official and mod from there right?

Also, after modding again, whats best practices for connecting online and WiiConnect24 and the VC store?

I've updated to 4.2 and was able to get everything up and running again 100% [except for the Official disc channel], I used to be able to play backups right from there without using a loader, [with discs] and now i can't. Which is a small gripe. You can keep your Internet connection on but recomended that you turn WiiConnect24 off. [you don't want a new update comming out an in-advertantly updating to it before someone figures a work around for it] I'm not sure exactly what you want to know about the VC store, as far as i know, modded or not, you can still purchase VC games [i could be wrong on that, but i don't see how that would effect any mods seeing as there are no updates in the VC games].

Wow I didn't know you could do that. I'm trying to use Backup Loader 0.3 and none of my backups are working (Error 2 on Price is Right, BoomBlox loads then says it can't read disc, even though it use to work before I put my wii in the attic).

Is it possible to just update to 4.1 and hack?

I'm not 100% sure on that one, i was almost positive I seen a post on these forums where someone posted all the different System Menus to download. I think [from what i read on the post] that it was dangerous. Me personally, I havn't tried it so i couldn't tell you how well it works.

if you want games on the disc channel, buy a mod chip. Hacking your wii to do this is dangerous, pointless and lazy.

Dont use gamma 0.3, get neogamma r7 and that will fix the 002 error.
