USB Loader GX freezes after i load it

i downloaded the usb loader gx file and moved all the files over to the SD card. i then used WAD manager and installed the USB Loader GX r723 - ULNR.wad and now i have a usb loader as a channel. when i launch it and click start the screen goes black for about 5-10 seconds and then i get white lines and my Wii froze. i have to hold down power button and turn it back on to get it to work. any ideas? i followed the guide posted in this forum.

oh, i have my usb drive plugged in formatted and ready to go with super paper mario on it where i used WBFS manager to format and transfer the ISO

oh and when it turns on and loads to preloader...if i select wii menu it gives an error saying hacks.ini is 0 bytes and then loads into Wii if that matters at all?

lol, last edit: i tried to use coverfloader and that freezes on initializing disk (my usb drive is plugged into port 0 ... one on the right if unit is standing up)

Thats an outdated version and is probably why it crashes.

For the latest version in dol format go here.
    Revisions (USB Loader GX)

EDIT: I don't know how to make them into WADs if your wondering.

    Preloader start up, Quote
To install additional System Menu patches, simply copy the "hacks.ini" file included with preloader into the root of your SD card. (Ensure you are using the correct hacks.ini for your Wii's region.)
Then, boot into Preloader's settings, and chose to enable or disable the patches in the Hack Settings menu.

Preloader and bootmii are completly different, and can both be run together. Its a good idea to have both, I do.

i thought they were both low level loaders that loaded before the Wii software did to save from bricking your machine? they seem to have same options for loading

Bootmii, if set to install at boot will boot before preloader. Preloader will boot before the system menu. Two ways of getting to HBC ot system menu.
Thats why a new system menu wipes out preloader but not bootmii.

    ah ok

sorry, one last, off topic question.

clearly my 2gig USB drive isn't going to cut it for most games. if i bought an external hard drive with USB and RJ45 connection, partitioned it so there was a Wii type partition (WBFS) and an NTFS partition, would wii freak out?

usb port goes to wii, rj45 goes to network for everything else

Check out the compatability list before you buy a HDD. Passport ones are good, WD are common. You can have a wired lan from the Wii, I use the WiFi.
not sure about a lan into the drive, not common.
    Your partitioning will nbe fine.

sorry to jump on your post i am also having problems

Installed cIOS rev 14, and release 778, open it in homebrew channel (also upto date) and it works for around 10 seconds then just crashes and resets to homebrew channel.

If i dont have the USB drive plugged in, it works fine, no crashes (but whats the use in that!) HD is a WD Passport.

is there like a reccomended cIOS and USB Loader GX i should try to ensure both are working, or are they any settings i can use to stop this happening.

If i am quick enough i can load the game i want to play and it works.. (renamed Wii sports resort so i can access it quickly !)

Any help, as i really wanna play metroid trilogy!!

    thanks in advance guys
