Please help installing cIOS36/236 for usb loader gx "I'm such a noob!!"

Ok, so I'm a noob! Let my try and remember what I've done so far...
Basically I'm trying to install a cIOS on my wii so that I can play back ups of my own games to save my discs getting scratched and to improve load times.
I'm trying to use USB Loader GX.
I'm sure I've installed IOS36 like 3 times using various different installers, which is the one I need right, that's a cIOS? I've always had to download the appropriate WAD file from NUS downloader as and load it on to my SD card as my internet connection is pretty weak and would always fail if I tried to get the installers to download the files themselves.
So as far as i know, I've successfully installed IOS36, most recently with multi mod manager 13.4, clicking yes to all the patches it asks if I want to apply. So Yer that's done right? cIOS installed?
So I go to run the USB loader but it seems to load it with IOS58 and says that there's a bunch of things that it won't be able to do... Wtf!?
Ok so back to multi mod manager, sure enough at the bottom it says :
    "load another IOS - (current : IOS58 v6176)....Sigh!
Soooo... Load another IOS right? I select that option and load IOS36 (have also tried loading IOS236) cos apparently that's something to do?
Anyway, doesn't matter which one I load, once I exit multi mod manager and try usb loader GX again, it still says I'm running IOS58! Have tried running usb loader from within MMM but it says failed to load IOS58, cIOS or ios58 with ahb access. PLEASE HELP!
I have the following apps on homebrew incase you need anymore info that can be got from these apps:
    Multi Mod Manager 13.4
    Usb loader gx
cIOS38r17 installer (from previous attempted install)
    DOP-MII
    Homebrew browser
IOS236 installer v6 (again, successfully used to install Ios236 I think)

Please, any help you can give would be amazing, I'm going crazy over this, think my girlfriend is gonna leave me if I don't sort it soon haha!
    Jackson

Sounds like you are trying the infamous "cheery-picking" method of Wii Modding, which is a recipe for failure (which is why you are here).

We recommend that you follow our Softmod Any Wii guide from the top and follow it exactly. When you get to chapter 2, include the "optional" (it says it is, I'm telling you to do it anyway) IOS Update pack, in case you messed up the main system, this will repair it.

At the end, see if things start to work. If not, come back and let us know what it is doing now.

The guide is linked in my signature.

Hey thanks a lot man, was trying to do it with a micro sd card and adapter so that probably didn't help. Ordered a new 1gb sd standard card, will try your guide on Tuesday and let you know.
    Thanks again!

Hey! Sorry for the delay, I've been away but finally got round to using your tutorial, followed it exactly and it works great! Thanks so much bro, works like a charm. Taught me a lot about how wiis work but I'm still having some problems with trying to play gamecube games and wiiware/vc wads.
Firstly, for gamecube backups, I've tried to install diosmios 3 times from 3 different sources. Gamecube games become visible in usb loader gx and wiiflow etc. But if I try to play from any loader the screen just goes blank or powers off the wii. Not only that but if I try to play a gamecube game from disc it does the same. I can reverse it by reinstalling mios rev 10, but i every time I reinstall diosmios I get the same result any ideas?
For playing wiiware and vc wads I'm really still quite clueless to be honest. I know I have to dump my nand to the hard drive and then install the wads to the emu nand? Kinda tried to do it on usb loader gx but didn't really know what I was doing and couldn't get it to work. I couldn't really find any good tutorials online so any suggestions?

    Thanks again man

In general, we don't really endorse installing WiiWare and VC via wads, as you should be buying them from Wii Shop.

There are rare reasons why you would want to do this, but in whole, yeah. you get the idea.

You don't need to use an emulated NAND. Many people will suggest it in case you do something that results in a bricked system, you only brick your emulated memory and can always switch back to the system memory that is still safe. I've never messed with it, myself, so can't answer questions regarding the install and use of emulated memory.

As for GameCube games, make sure your USB is FAT32 formatted with 32k clusters. Read the FAT32 and Dios Mios guides linked in my signature for more information on how to do this and how to install GameCube content properly to the hard drive (hint: DMToolbox).

We do have guides for this, perhaps reading and following them would be in order? Then if still having questions on the subject matter, we recommend you post in the relevant thread.

Uninvited? You aren't intruding, but it still seems if you're missing what's being said. Following a guide "one time," and then making other modifications to your system isn't following a guide, it's deviating from a tried-and-true path. If you're saying you've remodded it according to our guide AFTER we've counseled you to follow it, tell us. That's not what I'm reading, though.

Prove me and the other staffers wrong --- post a SysCheck. Both the program itself and the directions for doing so can be found HERE.
