Games no longer load from USB Loader GX even though they all worked before

I have a couple of soft modded Wiis. I modded one about 4 years ago and the other was modded within the last 6 months by a friend. I have an external 80 gig hard drive with my Wii games on it. The external drive has worked fine on the original wii for the last 4 years. It was formatted as a FAT32 drive and has a WBFS folder in it with the games.

I moved recently and lost the power adapter for my enclosure. I then used a IDE to USB adapter with an external power supply for the hard drive. The original Wii would not recognize the drive using that setup but then my buddy gave me his recently modded Wii. I then hooked up the drive using the IDE to USB adapter and the new Wii actually let me play the games off the same drive.

Well I found my power pack and put the drive back into the enclosure because the ide to usb adapter was very clunky and had too may wires laying about. I then tried using my original Wii and it saw the games but when I tried to load one, it jsut would freeze as soon as it tried loading the same.

I then tried USB Loader GX on the newer Wii. I load up USB loader and then I see all the games. I try to choose a game and as soon as I hit start on that game, the screen goes black and then nothing happens.

I then shut everything down and hooked up the external drive to my computer and copied all the games and files/folders on the external drive to my computer's drive. I then put a different 80 gig IDE drive into the enclosure and used a utility to format it as FAT32 and then only copied the WBFS folder with the games to the root of the external drive.

Plugged into my newer Wii and same issue. Games show up in the list but as soon as you click the Start button, the game goes black and won't load.

    Any ideas?

Post a SysCheck of the offending Wii --- both the instructions and program can be found HERE.

Here you go. This is the syscheck of my newer wii that was working fine until last week.

    Spoiler

Now a new problem is occurring with my old Wii, the one that was modded back in 2010-2011 and hasn't been updated since then. I took the SD card out of my new Wii and put it into the old Wii to get the Syscheck out of and turned it on. I then launch the Homebrew Channel on the old Wii, my Wiimote lights go out and it becomes unresponsive. There are no lights on the Wiimote and even if I hit the A to connect to the Wii, it doesn't blink or anything. I then took the batteries out and put them back in and all the lights blink like its trying to connect but just won't. I then reboot the old Wii and the Wiimote then connects and works until I launch a homebrew of some sort. If I launch the old USB GX loader, the Wiimote becomes unresponsive. Not sure what is going on. Did putting the old SD card into the new Wii and then putting it back into the old Wii mess something up?

Oh wait, just discovered that my Wiimote is too new for my old soft modded Wii. I then used an old Wiimote and it functioned. The games actually work. I didn't realize that newer Wiimotes were compatible with old modded Wiis. I then tested the old USB Loader GX and it works with my external drive and the games on it. So my old Wii is functioning but my newer Wii locks up when the same games are launched. I'm going to update my old Wii's softmod though so I can use the newer Wiimotes that I have.

The mod is a hodgepodge of mess. I'd suggest re-modding it with Softmod Any Wii guide.

It's not that "New Remotes won't work with old mods", it's more "New Remotes won't work with old apps". If you updated your apps, the new remotes would work just fine.

And don't reply to yourself. It is against site rules to do so. Please edit your last post if you want to add additional content to a message that has not received a reply, or wait 24 hours, then it is ok to double-post.

Question about replying to yourself, does editing the post bring it to the top? That is why I would rather reply to myself than edit the post, if I added new material to the post, then I know replying will bring it to the top, but I thought that editing it will leave it pushed down wherever it is.

I understand about the apps needing to be updated. I just figure that updating the softmod will just update everything on the Wii so it can play the latest games and gamecube games, correct?

No, but if we didn't reply yet, it usually means we've not yet seen it. So the post would still be in our "New Posts" list.

And modding a system and installing apps are different. You can remod your old Wii to be current, but if you are still using the old apps, it still won't use the new Remote.

You could try to use the new apps on the old mod, and one of two things will happen: 1) It will work, or 2) you'll get DSI error crash messages, telling you that your mod is out of date and needs to be updated.

Okay, I went and followed the guide to update my old Wii first. Everything seemed to go without a hitch. I then used the App pack and updated the core apps on the Wii as well. I then launched the USB Loader GX on my old Wii that is now current and it launched fine but still did the same thing as my new Wii, games show up in the list and as soon as you launch it, Wii locks up. However the CFG Loader does launch the games and they load fine. I'm still wondering why USB Loader GX won't work with my drive but CFG Loader does. I will rehack my newer Wii and install CFG loader and see if that works with my drive as well.

Are you launching GX from a loader channel on the menu? or directly from HBC?

If you had an old GX channel, it may be the old app, and not a forwarder to load whatever version is on your SD card. So check which version of GX you are running.
