Newbie: Just purchased a chipped wii need help.

Hi, I recently purchased a chipped wii, 4.1e running neogamma R8 v7. There is a homebrew channel available. I am able to play copied games but when I download games using imgburner, dvd-R discs ar 4x speed, iso file format the games either can not be read or will start and then freeze after the intro. If I go into the homebrew channel the following is displayed:

    1. Cio installer cios38r14 by waninkoko.
    2. Firmware updater 4.1 version v1.0 by waninkoko.
    3. Preloader Priiloader version unknown.
    4. Truchabug restorer version 1.0 coder wiipower.
    5. Wad manager version 1.4 coder waninkoko-wiininja-sorg.

    My questions are as follows:

    1. What are the reasons for the games not working?
    2. Does disc manufacturer make a difference, I am using memorex?
    3. What can and do I need to upgrade and how?
    4. Can I install a usb loader usin a 1 gb sd card and how do I go about doing this?
    5. Will games from different regions play on this console and could this be the problem?

    Thanking anyone who can help!

    Cheers Slade22

Do the normal game disks work normally?

Normal game discs and a whole bunch of copied games work fine.

Presumably you mean your archival backups of your original discs work fine. Discs as a medium stink on ice. Read about USB loading. It's much more gooder than discs any day of the week. Out of region would depend on the capabilities of your chip, as well as system menu version. Read the newbies thread in my signature to get started.

Memorex discs are garbage. Memorex does not make their own optical discs. They rebrand the cheapest producer's media in a given week. They should be avoided. Verbatim with Azo Dye are the ones to get. DVD-R (not +R, harder for the laser to read).

If you have a chipped Wii, did you try the disc channel with the backups to see if they behave identically as (presumably, since you're not clear) they did in a backup loader? You say original/retail work, as do backups in a reply... yet your initial post says nope. Which is it?

Morning thanks for all the replies. Ok, Verbatim to be used in the future. That being said I am a complete Newbie so when you say disc channel with the backups what are you referring to (couldnt find anything in your signature for this BluPhant)? Currently I am downloading games, burning them to DVD - R discs in iso format using imgburn and am experiencing problems such as can not read disc or screen freezing after the intro. Nightstah, most copied games i received with the wii work fine as did one or two of my copies initially, it is more recent where every game I now burn to DVD they does not play (downloaded six games recently all not working.). Based on my software as listed in original post do I further need to download anything or update anything to get optimal performance from my wii and have the ability to play games not using DVD's?

Update: I updated my IOS to d2x and all games now playing perfectly. I will be installing usb loader today. Good learning curve, thanks for all the assistance and you can consider this thread closed.

Would have locked it anyway at this point since we do not condone or support piracy.
