Emulators Don't Detect Nunchuck or Third Party Classic Controllers.

I'm a longtime emulator fan, and since softmodding my wii, i have been in retro gaming heaven.

I am, however, having two very frustrating issues.

First off, SNES9x GX does not recognize my nunchucks.

Secondly, i ordered a pair of third party classic controllers. They came in the mail yesterday, but NONE of the emulators recognize them. Is it because they are third party?

Thank you guys in advance for helping a n00b out.

That's up to the apps themselves to know how to handle each type of input.

I see no use in a nunchuk on a SNES emulator anyway, since there are no analog sticks on a SNES to emulate.

As for third party classic controllers, we almost always suggest you stick with the first party controllers, since they have to do something different to not violate trademarks and copyrights, that "change" can cause things not to work right.

I actually believe the nunchuck is important because of the two extra buttons (C and Z), and also because using the D-pad at the same time as A and B (not to mention 1 and 2) can prove to be cumbersome.

The original system didn't have a C or Z button. So what good would they do?

Anyway, there is nothing you can do save find the source code and program the functionality in, or ask the app authors to do so.

And I'm sure they will be asking must more intrusive questions of "why?!" than I am .

I just don't see how SNES's A, B, X, Y, L, R, Select and Start could be comfortably mapped to the Wiimote's A, B, +, -, Home, 1 and 2. The position of the D-pad is just really the icing on the cake. Which in hindsight is probably what you (llaffer) meant at first, but the comment about the analog stick mislead me.

And yeah, third-party is a bad idea. Especially the analog sticks.

Like llaffer said, third-party controllers don't work in homebrew applications because the authors didn't add support for them. There are modified SVN builds from FIX94 that could fix the issue with that, but I'm unsure about the Nunchuck. Most of the time the analog sticks report that they are constantly being held to the right*, but if you don't care about that, give this a try. FIX94 also has modified SVN builds for FCE Ultra GX, Genesis Plus GX, SMS Plus GX, and VBA GX. I haven't tested these myself, but from the feedback I saw for them it sounds like it works.

EDIT* : I mistyped that, it actually reports the analog sticks being held to the left, not the right.

I know it's obviously not a real fix, couldn't you just hold it a little to the left while it loads?

Shoot, now that I re-read my post, it should actually read that it reports constantly being held to the left, my bad.

I don't know if that would work though, I'm pretty sure it's not like that for every controller. Worth a try though, I'll have to test it.
