Question I bought a used Wii off of Craigslist to find that it's already been softmodded

Hi everyone, like the title of this message says, I have bought a softmodded Wii. Win-win right?

Well, I'm not sure if this makes sense, but I'm kind of dissapointed. I've done the research and I feel confident that I know what to do, and I really wanted to do it on my own. Plus, I'm not sure exactly what software the person loaded onto the Wii. Here's a screenshot of what pops up when I click on the homebrew channel.

I wanted to know, would the Wii be okay if I reset it from the system menu, and then formatted the SD card that came with it and started over? Is there a risk of me bricking the Wii or messing something up?

No reason to reset the wii, either post a system check so we can see what's installed or simply follow the softmod any wii guide to bring it up to date

Well I wanted to reset the wii so I could get rid of the previous owner's account, settings, etc. And I'd love to post a system check, how do I go about doing one? I'm sorry, this is my first time owning a Wii so I'm still trying to figure out the system.

    *EDIT*
I was looking over this guide: http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...i-hacking.html

    and under this portion:
Should I reformat my wii? I did something wrong and want to start over! How can I make my Wii a virgin?
Guess what? Once your wii is no longer a virgin, it's no longer a virgin. Formatting the wii is generally unhelpful and should only be done under the advisement of Wiihacks Staff. If you want to update your existing softmod, there is no additional preparation necessary. Just follow the Softmod Any Wii guide, and use the "homebrew channel already installed" option.

FYI, Nintendo has software that can detect if your wii was ever softmodded, and will deny in-warranty claims if "unauthorized software" (read HBC) is detected.
I tried to click on the "Softmod Any Wii" guide and it's been deleted. Any chance anyone has a backup, or knows generally what I would need to do?

Thank you! I'm looking through the guide now, and I have 4.3U. I'm currently looking at this portion of the guide, and I wonder. Since I haven't installed the homebrew channel myself, should I skip installation of ios58 and 61, or is it fine that I didn't do that portion?

    Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed

If you already have a softmod with HBC installed, you can update your softmod with this guide.

Note: 4.3 wiis can skip installation of ios58 and 61, and simply load Hackmii from the HBC.

First, backup and Format your SD card.
System Menu 3.1 or less LOOK HERE

    System Menus 3.2 - 4.3

    Extract WiiMod-58-61_Hackmii_1.1.0 to sd:\
    Load the HomeBrew Channel
Launch WiiMod - WiiMod will load

    -Select Wad Manager -Press A
-Press 1, -press A -Install all wads
    -IOS58 and IOS61 will install
    -Press "any button" to continue
-Exit WiiMod to go back to the Homebrew Channel
    -Select hackmii_installer_v1.0 - Press A to Launch
    -Hackmii Installer Loads

Yes, if you're on System Menu 4.3 you can skip the installation of IOS 58 and 61 just as the guide says

I just opened up homebrew channel to do just that, and there is no hackmii to be found. It looks exactly as shown in the first picture above. The only thing close to hackmii I can see is when I press the home button and I see bootmii listed. So should I just go ahead and follow the guide further (backing up SD card, formatting, etc...)? Thank you for all the help btw!

You should follow the guide exactly as it's written starting from Mods with HBC installed. It should tell you everything you need, what to do and how to do it. Any further inquires are best asked in the guide

Many experienced users frequent that guide so you'll likely get any help, should you need it, quickly by asking there.

Just make sure you read the guide 2 or 3 times before doing anything, if you run into trouble don't just "wing it", ask what you should do next.

    Good luck!
