    Little confused about softmodding

I have a black 4.2u virgin wii, bought from US which I want to softmod so that I can play games from usb HDD. I read the "Softmod any wii" tutorial but wondering, is bannerbomb is still the only way to get it done. Need some help regarding this..I am still confused.

There are other ways, but bannerbomb is best. Not sure what other help can be given without quoting everything that is in that guide... And not sure what is confusing you about this...

Thanks for the quick response. I am confused whether to update to 4.3 and then use the letterbomb (mail) method or use the bannerbomb with current version only. Other thing is that now latest version for HBC is 1.1.2, should this be used instead as the tutorial has previous version (1.1.0).

1.1.2 is for Wii U's Virtual Wii, 1.1.0 is for real Wii's. The guide is as it should be

Also, system menu 4.2 is fine. We recommend 4.1 but theres nothing wrong with 4.2 and the guide has a (optional) section that will let you downgrade to 4.1. There's absolutely no need to update the system before performing the Softmod.

I got it thanks for the wonderful tutorial...My HDD is not detected by USB loader gx but working with wiiflow, only prob is that no titles are displayed (only ?) and that too is working on the not recommended USB port. What seems to be the problem. This HDD belongs to my friend who gave it to me kid and it was working perfectly on his wii with all the titles and everything but on my wii it is somewhat problematic. This HDD has two partitions one FAT which is of 2 GB has some system files and folders (similar to the files and folders usually found on SD card. Folders like apps, config, codes, snes9x, usbloader, geexbox etc) other one is NTFS which is about 594 GB and has a folder named wbfs which has all the games (has two files for each game one wbfs and one txt file). What can be done to get all the titles showing and also to get it working with USB loader gx (which says no HDD detected). I have installed the modpack without IOS update and shopping channel update.

Not all loaders can handle the multiple partitions properly.

My personal suggestion is to go FAT32 as a single partition.

The site as guides for FAT32 and NTFS giving suggestions on how to format and how to load content onto the drive.

And you stated that you had a 4.2 system and performed the mod per our guide. The guide tells you that IOS Update is for systems that have never been 4.3. Unless you did a system update to get it to 4.3 first, you should go back and install the IOS Update contents, since you are missing files that may be required to play some of the later Wii games.
