    Updating a Softmodded Wii

Hi everyone, I have recently purchased a second hand wii that comes installed with Bootmii, Homebrew, and USB loader. However it is only running on Ver. 3.4u which means many new games cannot run on it, The wii is also currently not connected to the internet.

When I placed in Red Steel 2 it claimed my wii needs a system update, and then proceeded to attempting to update before I shut it down. I assume the disk came with update files that update my Wii to 4.2 (My red steel 2 disk was purchased back in 2010). I am mainly wondering whether I should, and how I should update my Wii without bricking it and without destroying the homebrew channel and USB loader. Also, I don't need to update to 4.2 or 4.3. If there is a way to update to 4.1 (and prevent my mods from being broken) that work too.

The Homebrew Channel and USB loader are installed on an SD card (as far as I know) and not in the hard drive of the Wii. if that makes any difference.

    Homebrew Channel 1.1.0
    IOS37 v14.25

USB loader GX Version: 3.0 r1180

    Wii version 3.4u.

    Thanks

And why would you think that? Games are not bound to System Menu versions. Follow this guide. You may start on the spoiler labeled "Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed" found in Chapter 1, Part 1. There are a couple bug fixes in later System Menus and additional support for SDHC etc. Be sure to follow the spoiler "Downgrade to/Upgrade to/Install System Menu v4.1 (Optional, but Recommended!!)" found right before the end of Part 1. System Menu 4.1 OK; anything else higher is strictly anti-piracy measures and nothing that enhances the user experience.

Because I tried placing in Red Steel 2 and it will not work, it claims my Wii requires updates. I am guessing these updates include 4.2u. Well does it? Or is Red Steel 2's update something else entirely. I'll secure more newer games to see which games are affected by this.

You aren't reading the guide. Nor have you thus far undertaken said guide. Priiloader. One word. And yep, it's in the guide. Read the guide, gain knowledge by doing so --- knowledge is power and will educate you.

Heres the deal: N packages IOS updates (IOS are what run games) with a System Menu version update. In all actuality the two are entirely separate. The guide nightstah told you to follow will update all those IOS without requiring a System Menu update. Now, regardless if your IOS are current or not, if the game detects you are on a lower System Menu version than is "required" for that game, it will prompt you to update. Thats where Priiloader comes in. If you followed the guide nightstah told you to, priiloader will block the disc update check, so you wont have to ever worry about that happening again. Make sense?

EDIT: Sorry nightstah, typing slow tonight
