    Working Wii no longer works

    .... sort of.

Okay, so modded my virgin Wii a few years back. I followed all the tutorials and guides and was successful in getting Priiloader, Bootmii, HBC and Wiiflow all working. Since this was a few years ago, only FAT32 was supported, so that's what my external USB HDD was formatted as.
Everything has been working fine for all this time.

I got a new game (Just Dance 4) where the WBFS file is more than 4GB. This isn't allowed on FAT32. So, I want to re-format my partition to NTFS, re-copy all my backups, and be able to move on. This is where I started.

I got the latest and greatest version of Wiiflow (4.2) and installed it. It *seemed* to work, in that it could see and read the USB drive. But when I went to select a game, it loaded the disc in the drive! I took the disc out and tried again, but then I heard it trying to power up the CD drive and then it froze on a black screen. This happens for all games.

Wiiflow v4.2 was last updated around 2010, so I thought I'd get something a bit more current, and USBLoader GX seemed to be that. I installed the latest version, and even the Channel Forwarder, and, once again, everything *seemed* to work; I could see the USB drive, find the games, and even loaded one of them. But it did give me an error upon first boot that I was using cIOS 249 Rev <18, and that is not supported, so go at your own risk. So, I decided to go ahead and get the latest and greats version of IOS 249, looks be Rev 21. I use WADLoaderGUI and the installation of the IOS seems to go off without a hitch. I then go back into USBLoaderGX, and now it can't see the USB drive!! WTF!!?!?!

I poke around in some settings and try cold booting and re-seating the USB drive. Connect it to my laptop, ensure it's still good, reconnect and try again, and nothing I do seems to make USBLoader GX see the USB drive. Which is really odd, b/c HBC sees it enough to load the app!

Since I have the latest IOS 249, I think to myself "well, maybe Wiiflow will work better now", so I go back and try that again. Still the same, everytime I try to load a game, it goes to the CD drive and blank-freezes.

So, now I have an "updated" Wii, but one that isn't working anymore! Can anyone help me out?? I don't want to copy over that whole partition, reformat to NTFS, then copy back over, until I'm sure that the Wii will actually work correctly!

Oh yes, one of the links I followed said something about having the latest d2x IOS installed. I tried installing the loader and running it, but it didn't make any sense, so I stopped. Most loaders are pretty idiot-proof, or at least help guide you and provide suggestions, but this one seems to require a few advanced degrees and some powers of premonition to figure out how to use it correctly.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Sounds like you really messed it up.

To fix it, find the Softmod any Wii guide that is linked in my signature and go through it to get your system current. Include IOS Update even if you think you don't have to.

FAT32 is fine, even for larger games since if you properly install the game, the game image will split along the 4gig limit line into a new file. WiiFlow and the other loaders will handle it just fine. See the FAT32 guide also linked in my signature for people installing techniques.

Chapter 3 and my signature also has recent if not the latest version of the three big USB loaders. Check them out to make sure you are current there.

Then finally, to get Just Dance 4 to work, you will have to lunch the game using cIOs 250 in the loader's game launch settings. Each loaders has their own method of choosing the number to launch with.

Ugh. That's what I was afraid of. I've been looking through the "Softmod any Wii" guide. The first few steps actually use a game exploit to get into the Wii. Since my Wii is already modded, I'm assuming I don't have to do those steps, right? I can start a bit further down where it actually starts installing HBC and varios IOS's, right?
Thanks for letting me know about FAT32 and splitting files. That'll save me a LOT of time copying a couple hundred Gig's back and forth. Now I just need to get myWii working again. :/

Then you've not read the guide well enough to understand it (the guide states it should be read thrice before you do anything).

The guide gives your 5 or 6 possible options to start with. Some are game exploits, some are menu exploits (bannerbomb/letterbomb), and one option (the first, I believe) is "for systems that already has HBC installed". That's the one you will want to start with.
