    Question green hacker

I bought a Wii years ago. I paid a guy to mod it because i was terrified i would brick it like i did with an old xbox. I've had one update but that was a couple years ago. Recently I've attempted to get as many wii games as I can because of the wiiU they will be harder to find. The problem is some of the games freeze the system and i have to unplug it and restart the system. I'm toying with the idea of dumping all my games to a HDD, suggested brands would be helpful.
I have home brew and have read what i can about updating; heres the problem, i do not have an SD card reader on my computer.
I also want to change the theme that was installed when the wii was modded.
I'd also like to what else i can do with the wii, netflix, etc
Any help and links would be great. in the mean time i'll keep searching this forum.

    thanks

On your freezing issue: post a SysCheck. Both program and directions can be found here. In terms of USB HD compatibility: we have a user-submitted list here. On theming: be very cautious, as that's one thing that done with carelessness can result a brick. That being said, have a look here. On the No SD card reader: find a friend with one, or buy a cheap USB version.

First off, awesome user name. I never owned one, but grew up in the Atari 2600 and Intellivision era of gaming.

Second, regarding the SD card reader, this is the cheapest thing I could fine on amazon that was Prime elegible and wasn't an add-on item that requires additional purchases (so if you plan on spending $25 or so anyway, look for the add-ons to get one for $3 or so. But this one is under $7: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...&tag=vgtr06-20

I concur about the theme changing being a tricky thing. You rarely look at the menu anyway, you turn it on to play the games, not to look at the pretty menu. You could use Priiloader (described in Chapter 2 of any wii guide) to launch one of the USB loaders on boot instead of going to Wii Menu, for a change of scenery.

If you include the optional Wii Shop v21 in the mod, you can then get into Wii Shop and download Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. With subscriptions to those services you can then use your Wii as a streaming TV/movie player.

Yeah, I think i'll stick with the original theme i had installed.
i'm looking around now, but most likely will buy a reader and 2nd SD card.
the problem i'm having now is that homebrew's latest installer says it can not install and the site says i should update the wii from 4.0 to 4.3. Should I do this?

What is the exact error from the installer?

4.1 is the recommended menu level (installing that comes in Chapter 2.

It might help if you post a syscheck so we can see what we're dealing with. Directions on how to generate and post one are in my signature.

ok, right now i have VER. 4.0U

i'll need a day or two to get the syscheck equipment.

for the time being you're saying 4.1, so if i did an update what would happen? would it jump all the way to 4.3 or go to 4.1 first

It would go to 4.3, but if you are already modded, we do not recommend you use Nintendo Update since there is a small chance it will brick.

The best thing to do is to do a remod (you'd have to remod again after an update if it didn't brick anyway, so may as well just do it right the first time).

Huh, love how we staffers have to ask for something TWICE before even an acknowledgement is made. And folks wonder why I come across as an Irritable Bowel Syndrome kinda guy...

Aye. Repeating myself is one of my least favorite things. If I have to repeat myself, I usually will copy and paste myself as a quote.
