Newbie: What Wii to buy? HELP! :)

    Hi!
I never was a GAMES person. i liked some games on my days, but not a big gamer.
BUT not that I have my own house, I want some game console to entertain friends.
I think a Wii is best for that?
But i want one that can be hacked. So before I go into the second hand market in search of a good Wii, i need to know wicth one should I get.

What should I look for? Thank you.

Any Wii that isn't a "Wii Mini" (thin black with red-trim system that top-loads disks instead of front-loads) can be modded.

Optimally, older models that are boot2 moddable have better brick protection, but there is no way to know if it's boot2-able until you've started the process and hackmii does its thing.

So basically, if you can get a system with GameCube support, you have more options available to you about what you can do with it after you mod it. But if all you can find is newer non-gamecube systems, as long as it's not the Mini, it can still be modded for USB loading, homebrew, etc.

    There are basically three models:

    1) Those with GameCube ports, designed to be standing up.
    2) Those without GameCube ports, designed to lay flat.
    3) Wii Mini - avoid.

The easiest way to tell if it's #1 or #2 is to look at the Wii logo on the front and make sure it's properly alligned. If it's standing tall, it's #1. If it's laying flat, it's #2.

Stay away from the mini's as said above. Boot2 Wiis are fun because they are pretty much indestructible software wise but are few and far between (although I'll have one for sell in a couple of weeks). You can tell a boot2 Wii by its serial number that is as long as no one has swapped shells or motherboards. There is a thread in the bricked section with a list of serials.

Just remember that if you don't mess with it after its been modded then chances of it screwing up are small. If you want to play with it then know what your doing or get a boot2 Wii.

    Tapatalk misspelled it. Knot me.

This looks like an old one for cheap.....listing even shows the serial number if you want to check for boot2 access.

I've read that some hacked models can load games from an USB pen or DISK? This feature seam cool. witch mode should I get to do this?
And do I need a firmware hack or some physical chip hack?
    thanks
