How to do a Wii System Update with a modded wii?

I softmodded my wii 1 1/2-2 years ago and I've had no problem with it. That is, until now, I'm wanting to do a Wii System Transfer to my Wii U, but it's not letting me do a Wii System Update because I keep getting error 32004. I'm not sure why I'm getting the error. I would be fine with not having homebrew on that wii anymore as I'm transferring everything anyways, but I just need to be able to update my Wii since I can't use the Wii Shop Channel unless I update it.

TL;DR: How can I bypass error 32004 and do a wii system transfer?

If you want to keep your wii modded and want to update, there are custom made system updaters that install the latest stuff, without Nintendo's trash. Try searching for an updater for the latest FW

You probably have priiloader installed and configured to block updates.

You should re-mod your system with our Softmod Any Wii guide to get it current. Be sure to include the optional Wii Shop Channel v21 in chapter 2. Getting that updated will let you access Wii Shop so you can download the Wii U Transfer Tool, while keeping your modded system in tact.
