    Modding WII without DVD-Drive

    Hi all,

I have been away from modding quite some time, but now i would like to get games to work on a wii i have here, that doesnt have a DVD drive in it (don't ask).

I can get everything to work (HBC,WIIMC etc.), except for the games. I think this is because the USB-Loaders need the DVD drive to perform somekind of check. (i see the game in WIIFlow, but get black screen on startup)

I have been reading a lot of forums, but i'm not quite sure on how to do this. I bwas thinking towards using UNEEK+d1 for this. Can anyone tell me if this is the way to go? or is there some other way of emulating the dvd drive?

Thanks for reading, let me know if you know this.

EDIT: looking on the internet, i came across some comments that say it may be possible emulating the nand (because the drive calls will be emulated). However i could run a fresh nand 1 time, but can't access it anymore. I will install the latest Cios's from unholyone's link and try again later. I'll let you know if it worked out

Drives are cheap and easy to put in. I'm not sure your going to have any other choice.

well I dont belive you need a dvd drive, (dont quote me on that) Id suggest reading this guide, update your wii with this guide(your wii is problly way outdated) and try running your games again! Iv modded lots of wiis with no dvd drive and the games boot just fine off an external hard drive! use the letterbomb method as you dont have a dvd drive obviousy, but nothing seem to be obvious around here....lol

I modded a Wii just a week ago using the latest version of ModMii. This Wii didn't have a drive in it at the time (had it apart for brick repair). Without thinking, I attempted to run games from the HDD and they wouldn't load. Being out of the modding scene for a while I had forgotten the requirement for the DVD drive. After testing a few games with none of them loading it I realized my error. I put in the drive and the problem was solved.

The softmod any Wii guide does differ from ModMii but the end results are similar.

In my experience, the drive needs to be present, at least the Wii needs to be able to detect that a drive is present. However it does not need to "work". I have an older Wii w/ a dysfunctional drive that works perfectly USB loading.
