    External hard drive not recognised

    Greetings all.

I want to provide as much (useful) information as possible about my situation, so forgive me if this post is a bit wordy.

I recently soft-modded my virgin wii using the "Softmod ANY wii guide" found here, using the instructions for version 4.3U. Everything went fine.

I am using a 1T Verbatim usb hard drive (which is on the compatibility list) and it was formatted FAT32 by default. I have already used about 1/2 the storage space for movies and shows. I put Wii Sports Resort in WBFS format on my hdd. I have read from a few different sources that it should be no problem playing WBFS format games from a FAT32 format hdd, however the hard drive is not being recognised by any of the apps installed from that guide (ie USB Loader GX, Wiiflow, Configurable USB loader, NeoGamma).

I have tried both USB ports, I have gone to HBC, pressed 1 and USB device was a selectable option under devices. I dont know what the significance of that is, (suuuuuper n00b) but it was one of the things I found to try here on the forums when I searched for this issue first.

So I really don't know what I am missing or what my next step should be. Im not super knowledgeable about any of this and do best following exact step by steps, which is why I'm not sure how I went wrong.

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance.

    External Hard Drives Not recognised

    Having exact same problems.
My previously Soft-Modded Wii has had a few issues over the past month so I decided to Re-Soft Mod the unit.
4.1E system now not seeing either of my Hard Drives at all.
1x WBFS hard drive which has worked well for over 2 years and 1x FAT32 with WBFS image.
Wii will not see either drive in either USB port.

Again went to HBC pressed 1 and USB wasn't a selectable option until I unplugged the Lacie Drive (FAT32 with WBFS files) and plugged it in again. (then became selectable)
Powered off the Wii and plugged in the WD Drive which is WBFS format, turned Wii back on and navigated to HBC. Pressed 1, again USB was selecatable.

    Any help greatfully received.

d2x v8 has been problematic for some users when it comes to HDD compatibility. You both can try either going with v7, or upgrading to v9b49 to see if either cios fixes your issues. If you are using NAND emulation you need to use v9. If not, v7 should be just fine.

    d2x v7 final wads.zip

    d2x v9(beta49).zip

Download one of the above packs and install using Wad Manager 1.7, MMM or WiiMod's wad manager.

Thank you cjizzle for your response. Shamefully, your instructions made almost zero sense to me :/ Is a wad manager some other program or application I need to download or is it already on my Wii due to the "any wii guide" that I followed?

WiiMod is what you used to install all the files in the modpack. Simply copy the apps folder from that pack to your SD card.

    - Download one of those packs I just posted and extract it directly to the wad folder on the root of your sd card. (If you dont have that folder, make one)
    - Launch WiiMod from the Homebrew Channel
    - Select Wad Manager and press A
    - Batch install all the wads that you just put in the wad folder.

Ok, that seems to have gone smoothly, but there is no change.

-If I launch neogamma and choose to load from USB, it says it cannot find a WBFS partition, and so does nothing.
-If I launch USB Loader GX, it doesn't give me that 20 second count down anymore, but the games aren't included in the list, nor is my hdd.
-If I launch WiiFlow, it says there are no games found.
-If I try to load via Configurable USB Loader, it says no partition found, please select partition. So I select my hdd and it takes me to a blank grey screen with the time and some option bars at top and bottom.

Am I just not using these programs properly? (That is highly possible, as I'm sure you can tell.)

Which pack did you use, v7 or v9? Try to install the other one to see if that helps. BTW nice job on providing details

I used v7. This is incredibly foreign to me, not to mention frustrating, so I'm trying to make it as easy as possible on any kind soul willing to help me out.

I installed the v9 wads, then launched USB Loader GX and again, the games/hard drive weren't on the list, just all the forwarders. When I navigated back to the system menu to try a different app, my wii froze on a black screen and is still there.

eta, I had to hold the power down for 5 seconds to get it to turn off, as the remote, power button and rest button weren't responding.
