Pretty much same results for me as well.
Is it worth while starting from scratch using original instructions SoftMod Any Wii.
Can the Wii be factory reset prior to fresh start?

In GX, try deleting the gxglobal.cfg file located in the sd/apps/usbloader_gx folder. This will force it to rewrite its config files the next time you run it. Give that a try and see if it will find your HDD. BTW, what format are your drives in?

The drive I'm trying is the same drive I've used for last 2 years.
    WD Elements
    WBFS Format
Checked drive by accessing through WBFS Manager 3, all works fine - PC finds drive and allows reading and writing of data.

I have deleted gxglobal.cfg file but as before USB Loader GX hangs at "Initialize Hard Drive"

You could try converting the HDD to fat32 using http://www.wiihacks.com/wii-custom-s...tml#post609569. It converts in realtime so no data is lost. After that, delete that config file and try again. What cIOS version are you using now?

    Im running version 7.
If people are having problems with V8 and V9 is a beta seemed to make more sense going back to V7.
Will try to convert HDD to FAT32.

Ok, I have converted drive from WBFS to FAT32.
Tried to use USB LOADER GX but when system states "Initialize USB" the blue light actually turns off on the hard drive after about 20 seconds.
Decided to try "Configurable USB Loader", system gets as far as "Mounting Device" and blue light on hard drive turns off after around 90 seconds or so.

If you havent tried v9 I would suggest doing so. If that doesnt help, maybe v6..?..? I realize v9 is a beta, but it has fixed quite a few problems with HDDs. No guarantees, but worth a shot.

First, my drive was in FAT32 format, but when I tried adding a second game (in iso format), it wouldn't work as apparently FAT32 doesn't suppost such a large file (just over 4g). So I converted it to NTFS, and still nothing showed up when I tried accessing through the wii. If i format it back to FAT32 like you suggested, will that iso game be able to run?

I want to convert it back to fat32 anyway, because when I tried plugging the drive into a portable dvd player, it told me the drive was empty.

So plan of action is to format back to FAT 32, check if it will work just in case, then try deleting that gxglobal file. Fingers crossed!

Proper installing of game files will split larger files as needed so the game will fit on FAT32 partitions. Install the game from the original disk in a loader or use Wii Backup Manager to install to the hard drive.

I think that could have been my problem from the start. The first time I put the games on my drive, all I did was drag and drop them in ... I'm using Wii Backup Manager this time. I wasn't exaggerating when I said this is all foreign to me lol

OH MY GOSH! Thank you all sooooo much, I finally have it up and running and I'm pretty sure the problem the whole time is that I did not put the games on my hard drive properly. Talk about a rookie mistake lol. Anyway, thank you again for all your help and patients!! You da best!

No problem -- another rookie mistake is to double-post (against forum rules). you are expected to edit your own posts if there has been no replies within 24 hours. I fixed it for now, but watch it next time.

    Glad I could help.
