Wii First Time Mod Help ?

Hi, I have a black wii with the latest update. I have read through the postings in the tutorials section but there aren't many screenshots & theres so much writing it makes my head spin...I found this guide online : [LINK REMOVED] (It was called ModMii Installer) & it looks as though it gets all the stuff one needs auto downloaded for you. What do the experts here think ? Is this method ok to use ?

I had a few other questions :

1) Can I play NTSC games after it's modded ?
2) Can I play my previously backed up iso's I made ?
3) Can I use a USB Flash instead of a HDD / what about a Large SD ?
4) Can I use a hdd that also has other stuff on it ?
5) I know you're not meant to update using Nintendo, but is there another way to get latest firmware that won't mess things up (I always like having the newest updates).
6) Is it easy to remove the soft-mod / is there an app that can auto do this ?

If anyone knows of any other easy to follow guides please let me know....

Use the "softmod any wii" guide found on this site, read it and when you think you got it read it again. To answer your questions 1-4 yes 5 no

First off, linking to external guides (guides not from wiihacks.com) is not allowed, so I removed the link.

You are saying you have problems reading through our guides because of the great ammount of text and therefore wanted to try another guide. It did not look at the guide, but I can assure you that the guides here are often of superior quality. We update our guide according to new developments, do lots of testing and give a lot of thought to writing our guides. This is also where the lack of screenshots come from: as we need to update our guides often to incorporate new developments, it's hard to keep refreshing/replacing screen shots.

I strongly suggest using our softmod guide, although you are free to make your own choice. If you have difficulty reading through it, try to do it at a lower pace. Take breaks. Make notes. Draw diagrams. Read through it together with a friend. Whatever helps. If you are unsure about a certain part, just ask.

As for you other questions:
1) yes
2) yes
3) yes and yes
4) yes, but why? 4.3 = 4.1 + anti-homebrew (which also makes it slower)
5) no and no. Removing a softmod is a delicate procedure, which can and will brick your wii if you do not carefully follow instructions.

Thanks guys for the replies, really appreciate your support, sorry about the link, it was called ModMii Installer. I also edited and added in bullet #5, which I think maybe wasn't their when you guys replied, is number 5 possible because I have a 320gb fat32 WD drive with over half it's space free which is more than enough for me, but I also use it for other backups. And as for the SD card, I don't really see any mention of it in the tutorial so how would I go about doing that then ? So would you guys recommend doing the mod, it seems most people that have even some slight knowledge in tech do it so it would seem so & I can always come back here for help....Thanks

Oh & I forgot to mention, I like to be able to access WiiShop and such which is why I like to do the updates, but like you said, one can do the updates manually and disc updates too ?

Ok Thanks, as for using the drive, I mean that I want to use it to install wii games to and also to store some other stuff on, so that I can disconnect it from the wii & use it on my pc too.....

That's great ! That's how we can load iso's to it I guess....Tried my 4GB SD card on the wii and it opened so I assume it's working, so I guess I have everything I need to start...You think it's bad for the hdd being used to run games, or won't it reduce the discs quality at all cause I don't want to lose what's on there ? I'm just worried about these updates, today Nintendo sent me messages on the wii board talking about a new update to the wii menu, and with modding I can no longer update my system...

Not bad for your HDD, thats what it is made for right? To read and write data? Any updates you need will be either in the Softmod ANY Wii guide or somewhere on this forum, so ignore those update prompts from N. If something doesnt work the way you expect, search the forums for it, and if you cant find an answer then post your question and someone will help you out. :)

Okay Great, I read through the tut again & it's looking pretty easy now actually....Just 1 last thing that's kinda important; you mentioned I could play ntsc games /iso's, but is it possible to load iso's to my fat32 hdd ? I read somewhere it has to be in another format. Nothing about loading iso's is mentioned in the tut so do you know of any other tutorial that can help me out with this aspect....Thanks ! ;)
