    homebrew channel without custom firmware?

Alright, basically I'm wondering if there is a way to install the homebrew channel without custom firmware? I recently got a Wii for christmas (though I had one at launch that broke a couple years ago, so this is more my replacement)

I want the least risk involved with modding it, I know there is always some risk, but I'd like to avoid having to take un-necessary risky moves on it, and just get straight to the point, I'm not really interested in playing DVD backups or backups of retail DVD games at all, I really just want homebrew and the ability to install channels/etc.

My Wii is one of the newer models (no backward compat) fully updated firmware and shop channel.

I just want some clarification on if I can install the homebrew channel some how without custom firmware or if that is a necessity, and how I would go about doing it or being sent in the right direction.

I greatly appreciate any help/advice, thanks guys (and girls).

By "install channels" do you mean install Virtual Console/WiiWare games?

Not sure about "custom firmware," but to install the HBC you will have to do some preliminary hacking to accomplish this. Your post though undoubtedly well-meaning, doesn't really convey what you're asking or wanting to do. Perhaps elaborating as to what you intend or be able to accomplish wouldn't hurt???

well I was more looking to install emulators as channels, if it's at all possible

what I basically want to do is install a Gameboy Advance emulator, possibly as a channel so it shows up on the menu like anything else, if it's at all possible.

@nightstah: I'm thinking that he means IOSs. Not sure, though.

Ok, then that's fine. But as nightstah said, we're not entirely sure what you mean in your OP. I'm going to recommend you read the Thinking About Hacking A Wii thread (link in my sig). That should answer a lot of the questions you might have.

Installing those channel wads is just as risky as anything else involved in fully modding your wii. You are looking for the "safest" way to get your emulators on there i guess. What i recommend is that you install hbc and bootmii, make a nand backup, install priiloader, then install your emulator channels. Use forwarder channels vs full ones, that way when they need updating you simply have to replace the .dol on your sd card or hdd.

Which means, essentially doing the full softmod (which has you doing what Skell is telling you to do). Priiloader and BootMii with a NAND backup go a long way to ease one's mind...
