Arrow ** Need helping in order to finally use my Wii the way I want to! **

    Hey all,

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who contributes to the forum, I read all the stickies and they helped a lot with the homebrew install but I have some specific questions. I initially tried to install everything to play my backups a few months ago but then had to take a break when my brother got really sick to take care of him so now I'm in the middle of everything and pretty confused as to what to do. I have a couple of backups of Wii games that I want to be able to play on my Wii (only a few but still, I want to be able to play them). But more importantly, I want to play some nostalgic SNES/NES games that I want to install emulators for on my Wii. I would also like to be able to play DVDs with my Wii and if possible, stream content from my shared folders (music and movies) if this is possible? This is where I've left off:

I have the homebrew channel installed and I have a USB with like the 3 backup files of my Wii games on it (the USB is in NTFS format and I installed the files using Wii BackUp Manager)

    1) Now my questions are what ios or cIOS or combinations thereof do I need to have on my Wii to play the games. I am so confused as to which ones to use, admittedly even after reading the stickies/and other wikis online, and I am not sure which one is best/better to use for my needs.

    2) What do I need to do to be able to play DVDs? Do I just install WiiMC (the latest version is v1.3.2?) and then any DVD i put in should work?

    3) Is streaming music/movies off of a file server a possibility for the Wii? What do I need to do to accomplish this?

    4) Finally, I cant figure out how to format my SD card that contains all of my apps and emulators correctly (sorry if this information is somewhere, I searched but couldn't find it). How is the SD Card supposed to be organized? What is the root folder supposed to be, I remember one folder for apps, and one for each program I use? If anyone can give me a link to how I am supposed to organize it so that it works it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you all so much and happy new year!

    -Deymious

    1) Read the FAQ (link in my sig titled "Thinking Abaut Hacking A Wii? Read This First").
    2) You need a Wii that supports playing DVDs and something to play them with (WiiMC is my personal favourite). And yes, most should work.
    3) Yes it's possible, use WiiMC.
    4) It should look like SD:/apps/appname/<app contents>. Each emulator has a specific place it looks for ROMs. There's probably a guide the emulator(s) you want to use on here somewhere.

Finally, to completely softmod your Wii, use the Softmod Any Wii guide (again, link in my sig). It will set you up with everything you need.

    Hey dniMretsaM,

I really appreciate the help man. So I am currently trying to make a BootMii back up, however, I have no files on my SD card and when I went to try to make the backup through my homebrew channel, the screen just went black. I think I need to have files on my SD card for this, but those files have long been erased, but I still have the homebrew channel and BootMii installed on my Wii. What can I do now in order to make the BootMii back up?

You'll need to have the BootMii files on your SD card. If you're following the Softmod Any Wii guide (which you should be), you can use the "Softmods with HOMEBREW CHANNEL installed" spoiler to launch the HackMii Installer and then choose the "Prepare SD Card" option. That will give you the necessary files. All that is in the guide, though.
