NO - sorry, I don't have one .. only the standard Wii remotes ...

Neither do I have any backup or burned discs ...

If I try loading an original disc - the system just freezes up with black screen on loading the game

Hi Jax - Certainly not that I'm aware of ... not even sure how to do that! .... I think I can safely say that I didn't!

Shall I maybe do an online update of wii? Hesitant to try that as I've read that it could brick the wii completely ..... dont know what else to do ... ;-(

    Please use the Edit function.

No, I would not recommend that...at-least ,not right now.
I believe you have messed up some of your ios's and it would do you good to wait for someone more Knowledgeable on this situation.

That guide you follow was Fail....Not on your part , but on the Guys part for not updating it and not making the guide clear enough.
That Guide was all over the place and out dated.

After successfully getting my USB HDD to work and backing up games, I then found they wouldn't play off the HDD - I did some research and it seemed it was linked to a missing IOS .. not too sure - but in the process of trying to correct that, I think I may have bricked the damn thing!
I have got a Nand backup and have tried to follow the process of restoring .. but to no avail! I have loaded the nand.bin and keys.bin files onto the root of the SD card and have also got the necessary bootmii folder with the 3 files on the card .. but the WII is NOT booting up to bootmii but rather goes directly to the WII menu, from which nothing works ... I'm assuming this means I have bootmii installed as IOS!?

I can boot up to the Wii system menu and can see the HBC channel, but if I select it and then select START, it reboots the Wii - as do all the other channels or if I try to play a game ...

    System is 4.3E ...

Don't know what else to do and am really hoping for some help ... bad start to the new year!
Sounds like you have an incomplete mod. Follow the Softmod Any Wii guide (link in my sig). It will complete your mod and should also fix your HBC problem. Since you can't get to the HBC, use the instructions for LetterBomb.

Just to add something, since we can't be sure that you didn't inadvertently uninstall an IOS, I'd recommend doing the IOS update section in that guide even though you're already on 4.3.

My best guess is that he somehow removed/modified whatever IOS the Homebrew Channel was installed on (not sure what that would be since I don't know what guide he used). Those guides can really screw things up, can't they? Anyway, as long as his Wii is working (except homebrew), I don't think the any Wii guide can hurt anything.
