Unhappy My external hdd is unrecognised by wii

I have a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 E-H011-02-3880 3.5 Series IDE hard drive in a Dynamode enclosure. From the usb compatibility list, it should work, but I have no idea why it isn't. I've tried formatting it as NTFS and wbfs, but I still get a black screen when I try to start usb loader gx.

The Wii is already softmodded (4.3E) with usb loader gx installed and working when I use a flash drive to test if my backups work. Any tips on how I can get it working?

I only have exfat and ntfs as format options using Windows 7. Is there any recommended software I can use to format it to fat32?

Thanks for the guide. I've followed all the steps, but it's still the same issue with the blank screen in usb loader gx. I've also tried using the drive with cfg usb loader and wiiflow, but they too don't recognise it.
Could the enclosure I'm using the drive with be causing any problems?

Yes, I connect it to the same one I use for the flash drive. The usb slot on the same side of the power/video connectors next to the edge of the Wii.

I've also tried loading usb loader gx, and then putting on the hard drive on during the count down, but it still does nothing. It just says waiting for your slow hdd, finds it after a couple of seconds, starts to load, then hangs on the loading part.

i can only assume that it is the enclosure then, i have used many a different drive external, internal docking stations and tbh they have all worked for me.

Ok, thanks for the help. I'll return the Dynamode and try and find the one used in the compatible list online.
