    Unmod Possible?

I recieved a Wii from a friend of mine last night that has been softmodded. At least I'm pretty sure it's not hard modded. My problem is I have no idea how to do anything with a softmodded Wii. All my wife wants it for is to run Netflix off of it which isn't possible seeing as I could only find one wad file for Netflix and it claims it's out of date. I've followed multiple guides as to how to run custom WADS; I've reinstalled the Homebrew multiple times after formatting just to get the same thing everytime. If anybody can tell me how I could possibly just unmod this completely so that we can just run Netflix. The USB Loader just sends back to the Homescreen while running IOS 249. At least I think I am, so I can't even use the USB Loader for games so nothing really works which makes the Wii essentially obsolete to us. Any help would be appreciated.

Removing the mod following that guide will solve your problem. You could also try following the softmod any wii guide and then you will be able to do all of the good stuff as well as run netflix. It will fix/update whatever has been done already.

I ended up unmodding it for the time being and installing Netflix and everything for my wife. Is there any way to install the Wii system to a VirtualBox so that I can start learning more on how it works and not modding the actual wii that we do have until I know for sure what I'm doing. (Then my wife won't take over my PS3 again. :P ) If not. Does anyone know of any Wii Emulators that could possibly be modded for Ubuntu 10.04?

The Dolphin emulator works in Ubuntu (though you have to compile it). But it just runs games, it's not a port of the actual OS. Your best bet is just to read the FAQs and guides on this site and learn what you're doing. A list of some helpful threads for beginners is in my signature. Other than that, just be sure to read the stickies at the top of each sub-forum. And the search tool is your friend.
