Getting to know my premodded Wii?

    Hey everyone,
I've recently bought a premodded Wii, in PAL region, and it came with USB Loader GX v3.0c, IOS249, Rev21007, NeoGamma R9 b56, and a Homebrow channel that features 3 different sections, namely "Wii mod v3.1", bootmii-casper and cboot2.

I basically wanted to know if there's any sort of FAQ written specifically for people with a premodded Wii who basically don't know a lot about their Wii as it stands. To be more specific, I can currently boot Wii games from my hard drive, and boot Gamecube game backups (including multigame discs) from NeoGamma. However, I also want to do things like booting Gamecube games from a SD card (as far as I understood, it's impossible to boot them from the USB?), or install DLC/WiiWare/VC WAD's in my Wii, and I need some sort of guidance in order to find out what kind of information I need to know and how to find it before I do so.

Also, I wanted to know if it's possible to use a different SD card other than the one I received along with the Wii, and if so, what do I need to do with it (or if I can just instantly put it in and it'd work from the get-go?)

I don't need an explanation for doing all those stuff, because I know there are very detailed guides for that part. I just wanted to ask if there's any sort of FAQ to help me understand what kind of info I need to know before I go ahead and follow said guides.

    Thanks in advance!

Take a look at the first link in my sig below. It will give you a basic understanding of Wii hacking.

-Yes you can run GC games from HDD. Look for Dios Mios.
-The apps in the homebrew channel are on the sd card, so if you want to change sd cards that is fine, but if you want to keep those apps you will need to copy the contents over to your new card.

I would suggest you post a system check. We could give you some more details about your system.

Thanks for the incredibly quick answer, however I have an issue - I tried to copy "syscheck" folder into my apps folder, but when I boot my Wii and go to the Homebrew channel, its channel wouldn't appear. Then, when I connect my SD card to my PC again, the "syscheck" folder is still there but the files inside it just disappeared leaving it empty. Is there any possible way to overcome this issue?

EDIT: I guess it's just my computer being stupid, it now works. Will post a system check in a few mins.

    Thats PEBKAC.

Extract the syscheck folder to your desktop first, then drag it over to your sd/apps folder. The path would look something like sd/apps/syscheck/boot.dol

Indeed that was my fault after all, sorry for the stupidity, guess you get that one a lot. Either way, two more questions:
While I also added it down here just in case, did you intend that I'd post it in the Syscheck results thread?
Also, would it be safe to brickproof my Wii with a NAND backup even though it has all sorts of apps installed on already? As a matter of fact, is it "brickproofed" as it is?

P.S. This report also made me realize that the Wii's time and date are completely off, in case it matters.

    Spoiler

No need to post it anywhere else. And we all have a blonde moment now and then so dont worry about it lol.

Yes you should make a nand backup. After that you should use the Softmod ANY Wii guide to update your mod. Start at Chapter 2 and complete the guide. Then you will be all set!

For the best, do a NAND BACKUP just after HBC and Bootmii installed; and do another NAND BACKUP after all Softmod and LOADERs installed !
Make a copy of the two NAND BACKUPs respectively will put you a 100000% brick-proof status !!!!!!

I seem to have files called keys.bin, nand.bin as well as a "bootmii" folder with armboot.bin, bootmii.ini and ppcboot.elf, all featured in the SD card I received along with my Wii. Also, according to the "Thinking about hacking a wii" guide, my drive is GC2-D3v2.

*Does it mean that they already NAND backup'd the Wii at the store? If so, should I count on that backup or should I back it up by myself?
*Since I also mentioned BootMii appears on HBC and on my Apps folder before I touched it, does it mean it's installed? If so, according to the previous report and my drive version, is my Wii "old enough" so that I could launch BootMii using the Boot2 thing or should I launch it solely from the HBC?

Since your wii can play back up disc, it could of been swapped out. It's all good.
We all use HDD 's Either way...well most of us do.

Somebody did it, I doubt it was the store, but you never know.
No, you can't depend on the store for your nand back up.
It's always a good idea to make another back up of your nand/keys and save them.

From the looks of your report, you don't have boot2....Since you have the folder bootmii and all it's content on your sd card (The Root), if you did have boot2 installed it would automatically boot into the bootmii screen when turning the wii on.
You can check to see if your wii is boot2 capable by , turning on your wii and if it is ...you will see one flash from the disc drive ,then two quick flashes from the disc drive.

Alright, so final questions before I go ahead and follow the modding guide (and will probably come back with questions once something inevitably goes wrong...) - considering it is indeed swapped out as you said, and should the softmod process succeed without any issues, will it retain the ability to play backups through NeoGamma (let alone original games)?

I will use a HDD if everything works of course, but as of now, I can only boot Gamecube games from discs, so I want to have the ability to play backups after the softmod as a "safety net".

Also, am I allowed to use SDHC rather than SD for the "re-"softmodding process since it's already softmodded, or should I only use it once I finish the process/not use it at all?
