playing backup games-getting started-USBLoader GX

so my Wii has the homebrew channel currently installed, currently at 4.3
With Xmas coming up, I am looking at buying my child some new games. Of course, I am interested in making backups of these and some of the others I currently own.
So I started searching around to see what all would be involved in doing so.
It seems if you want to make a backup you need a special drive for the PC, so that's out, or, and I need clarification on this, it can done with a Wii. correct?

Another option I was thinking about was just D/L the ISO created by someone else and using it but....... don't know about that. I imagine there are pros and cons to that.....

What I want to do is play my backups from a USB Drive, and from what I've read I need a few programs to do so. One is USBLoader-GX.

I'm stumped because I expected to see one D/L. Obviously I would D/L the latest version but.....how do I know which one i will need?

My plan is to install this so it is a "channel" on my Wii, if that is correct.

The other program is WBFS Manager.
Where can WBFS Manager be found or is that an incorrect question to ask here. Several guides reference sites that are gone or the links are removed..

My plan is to use a USB drive for backups only, nothing else will be stored on it.

That's correct
The easiest way to backup your games (after you have your hd setup) is just put the game in the wii with usb loader gx already running.

Try a search for wii backup manager it works well

Think I'm rockin' here. Wen't through the guide, did everything step by step, got everything loaded with no problems. Just for the hell of it, I used a 32G flash drive I had sitting around doing nothing, followed the steps in the other guide. Slipped in a game this morning and did my first backup. Played it from the drive, no problem, or, at least, just 5 minutes of playing it it seems fine. I don't play the Wii so I'll have to let them play for a while to make sure everything is on the up and up. Although after the holidays with so many beers and turkey, I may need to learn......
I've got a larger WD USB Drive if I need it, but I don't have many games to backup so maybe if the 32G works I'll just keep using it.


That's another question. While was reading and messing around, I could have swore I read something somewhere a way to set the Wii up to make it easier for the kids to select a backup image to play from. Is this true? Not looking for handouts, just yes or no.

The dilemma I can see is the kids trying to load a game from the USB drive and having to figure out what to click on to get there, and them doing the wrong thing. Maybe it's not a big deal. Any suggestions on that would be helpful.



Edit: Also, what is typical time it takes for USB Loader GX to recognize USB Storage? I noticed sometimes it finds it fast, sometimes it takes a while. Kinda scary cause you think it's locked up. Again, I can use some other storage device, just curious though....

You can use Priiloader so the wii boots right into your usb loader

What is the "mount DVD drive" option in USB Loader GX for? So far, I've only used the "install" option to back up my games for storage. What is the other used for?

Mount will load whatever disc is in the drive without installing. Basically it functions the same as pressing "Start" on the disc channel.

ok, ran into a problem with Call of Duty mw3. Getting stuck at the "loading......" screen.

So I did a search hear and came up with this:

So I downloaded the systemcheck app and ran it, got the CSV file and did a comparison of the listed there.
I did notice several differences and I'm not sure what's good and what's not good so I posted my syscheck here for someone with more experienced to look at.:

I don't know if there is a difference between it and the "mauifrog mod", but the link is dead for the frog one so......

Anyway, it looks like I have the correct IOS 224 [57] file or patch or whatever it is, but....still getting the loading screen.

What am I missing here? Seems like something simple.
I am assuming since this file is "installed" or "loaded" it is being used but I could be wrong on that. Is there a way to check to see what USB Loader GX is using or does that even make sense?
