Softmod help

So someone had a request for a soft mod, and sent me this:
Hi. I picked up5 Wii stations ($15 each) with broken hard drive thinking I could use the Wifi feature to connect on my router and then configure a channel to watch Netflix on my 5 TVs . I managed to configure the wireless connection succesfully, but when I go on Wii Store to add Netflix I always get an error message prompting me it can't read the disk (I don't even have a disk in the drive), to eject it and to turn the station Off.... ????
Do you have an idea what the problem is and can you help me with this? Do you think my Wiis are still softmodable
