    two questions about wiihacking

    1) is there a way to tell (preferably an easy way) if your Wii can read backups or burned discs/dvds or not? I mean for example can a wii play burned DVD movies without being hacked (like an xbox and ps3 can)? If so then it would be easy to tell... put a burned dvd in the wii if you can watch the movie then it can read burned discs if you cant watch the movie then you cant read burned discs.. so yeah is there a simple quick solution like that to determine whether or not it can read burned discs or would i have to hack it first?

    2) I have a FAT32 external USB HDD as thats what most ppl recommend for gaming purposes... however how would I use a isb loader to load games from a FAT32 usb when last I checked FAT32 only allows files up to 4gb in size while most Wii game files (iso) i see are 4.xx gb in size?

Burned media stinks. It just stinks. With fat32, the parts are easily divided for the (very few) games that are DL.

Read the newbies guide in my sig for more info, including how to tell what your drive is capable of.

the only games I have that are over 4gb are monster hunter tri and pandora's tower (PAL) which supposedly arent DL.. as most single layer DVD hold 4.7gb, so those games could easily fit on a single layer DVD BUT putting them on a FAT32 format drive with its file size restriction is a bit harder... unless of course youre guide explains how to make that work without changing my format... guess Ill have to see

IMHO, you are getting hung up on something (4.x gig file size restriction) that really doesn't matter, at all. With the tools available, you'll never even have to think about it. FYI, With a fat32 drive on the wii, the vast majority of games have WBFS files that are well below the 4.x gig size.

For details, read the fat32 guide in my sig.

The games that are + 4 gigs are in Iso file. Convert them to WBFS and they'll run fine.
The best way to check if you can run burned games is by trying. Remember to burn them via IMGBurn I think it was called .

well i just used the model checker in your guide and according to it theres a 100% chance that both my wii's can play burned games.. all the game files I have are iso which are over 4gigs but if converting them to WBFS makes the size until 4gigs or breaks it up into multiple files that are less than 4gigs (but every file together totals 4+ gigs) then the FAT32 issue is now fixed.. though its a moot point at this point when my wii's can play backups anyway lol.

there is one thing Id suggest about the "softmod any wii" guide though... each step tells you what files to download/use but no links to download them (at least not in the step itself) i think each step should have the download link to the file(s) specified for that step to make things easier imho.

I can tell you that going by the serial number alone won't tell you the whole story here is why: I worked on several wii's, a lot of times I had to replaced the outer shell, meaning that just because a wii has an specif serial number on it it doesn't mean that is the original one to the console, you won't know for sure if it can play dvd's until you either try it or open it up and look what the dvd drive.

true but the serial numbers Im goin by are from ppl who bought their wiis from stores new and know nothing about hacking of modifying so unless nintendo some how changed the inside but kept the old/wrong serial number on the case then its a 99.9% chance that its the right stuff inside

heres is another question.. when you hack the wii doe sit boot up and the wii menu look "normal" (i.e like it did before hacked) thus anyone whos clueless about mods/hacking would even know anything was different aside from a few new "channels"?

Also can you delete unwanted channels without bricking your hacked wii? For example if the wii is hacked and you only care about the USB loader and the backup/disc loader can you delete the homebrew channel. bootmii (assuming that snot vital to the two programs you want) etc etc?

Lastly is there a way that once its hacked you put in a backup disc and the game will show up on the wii menu normally (just like a normal non backup wii game) and you load it just like that or does the disc loader HAVE to be used? (same question again but for the USB loader this time). (dont wanna worry about kids touching bootmii or the home brew channel or messing with the wrong stuff and thus bricking or messing up the wii)

Deleting the Homebrew Channel would be the dumbest thing you could do. But feel fee to download for example CFGLoader without it being bricked. Move the hbc to the last page of channels to hide it from the kids... My backup Mario kart loads. From the home screen but most games won't.
