should i softmod it my self?

Hi everyone, after researching and reading forum posts i decided to join and ask this question, please don't tell me to use the search function, I did, here it is..

I got a Wii, version 4.3u, and i want to soft mod it to play homebrew and backups from either a sd card or usb key. I have read a bunch of guides, and here is my problem..

I was basically the special ED type growing up, had learning problems, failed, etc, and I really have a very hard time following any of the guides, i watched a couple of soft modding for dummies videos on youtube (i know you guys say don't use those, lol) and it seems like they make a bit more sense to me than the written guides on here. I am scared to ruin my wii, so i thought about paying and getting someone to do it for me, any ideas?

are there good guides that are basically "dum dum proof"?

    thanks.

    Try reading this guide:

    SoftMod ANY Wii

If you have any questions, the moderators here are VERY helpful - and even people like me who have minimal experience - can and will help. The guide look sa bit involved, but it literally is made with exact step by step instructions - so if you follow them word for word, you will not brick the wii.

Seriously - any questions, just ask. People will help you. I will say this - once you mod the wii successfully yourself - there is a definite sense of pride that goes along with it

Softmod any wii guide by mauifrog is definitely dumb proof Maybe it doesn't have big flashing "DON'T PANIC" but if you are able to read with understanding what are you reading and you follow chapter by chapter there is 99,999% chance that you will succeed (this 0,001% is for power shut down )

Read guide as many times as you will be absolutely sure you know what you are doing and than press START button :P

Thanks guys, I have looked over that guide a few times, and I will keep doing it. But with my learning/focus problem, there is something I seem to be missing. Which is what is causing me to "not get it" I will look over it again and then edit this post with questions, unless I get replies.

edit: ok these are 2 things I saw, but cannot understand so far, i see the term "HBC" i do not understand what it is, or how to find it, i am sure it is the most simple thing though and I am just blind. and number 2, the guide says make a naand backup? it says to do it, but I don't see how in that guide.

thanks again guys, i am going to keep looking over the guide, and maybe try it by this weekend.

1- HBC means Home Brew Channel
2 - Part 3- Make A NAND Backup (NOT Optional, do this,) Load HBC, press -HOME-, launch Bootmii - enter HBC and follow Part 3 from guide

This is base - if you would like to run backup games follow guides for usb loader or dios mios (lite) - and of course guide how to run problematic games (like call of duty or music games).

Hm well in the guide it shows all the loaders that come in the app pack, I didn't figure anything else was needed to play backups O.o

Sorry guys another question, I have 3 cards, an 8 gig sdhc, 16gig sdhc, and a 1 gig micro SD with the adapter to make it the size of a regular SD, can I use any of these cards for the hacking process? I have seen that people say use a 1-2 gig, sandisk SD.

    Thanks.

Everything you need to play Wii backups off of USB is included in the guide. At the end of the guide there is a link to out to setup you USB device properly:

    FAT32 Guide

In terms of the cards, there is a guide on Wiibrew that will show you what sd cards are compatible with bootmii (initial step of the guide)

I dont think we are allowed to post links to outside websites here, so do this:

Google "bootmii/sd card compatibility list" and click the top search result.

That will show you which SD card will work and which ones dont. 2gb Sandisk SD definitely works and only costs around 5 bucks on ebay. Thats the best option, but its definitely worth a shot to try the others. My opinion is to try the 8gb sdhc first. If the first step (hackmii installer / bootmii) works, you should be ok
