    Playing games off from sdcard.

    Hi guys,

    I have a all original wii (neither soft modded or hard modded) and had been on my 2nd lens replacement. Somehow my wii sounds like a dc generator while playing black ops and i managed to destroy my lens twice within a year.

    figure out i might as well do a soft mod and play the game off hdd or an sd card. Now my question is, if it is possible to play on the sdcard instead of the hdd? I don't have any spare hdd and since thats the only game i play i think a sdcard might be more logical. is the reading speed of the sd card slow than the hdd? could i still play online?

    Wii games works perfect with FAT32

    Using CFG Loader Without a Hard Drive

    • Select SD if asked during startup. If not asked, add the line device=SDHC to settings.cfg (see Configurable Options page for help doing this).
    • device = ask, usb, sdhc
    • You can force the loader to use a USB drive or SD cards when searching for games, or let it ask you.
      Note: The device option can also appear in settings.cfg, which has the highest priority. Look there first if the setting in config.txt isn't working for you.

    In wiiflow select SD and for USB Loader GX, go into settings>custom paths, and change the path to SD for everything.
    WII games in a "wbfs" folder on the SD/USB
    Both my wii is 4.3 so I use letterbomb.

    just got the backup wii this morning. Its a korean region, but when i boot up it came with homebrew channel, loaders, some other stuff and its at 4.1U. not too sure if it is hard modded or any knowledge about the wads, ios but i would be doing this

    1)install bootmii and backup bootmii files
    2)install modpack, ios update, wiishopchannel (from softmod any wii thread)
    3)install priiloader

    does that sounds right? and just to check id my current region still KOR or is it region U as from the menu?

    Do a sysCheck first, it may have bootmii and priiloader already and it will show all the IOS and cIOS
    guide-how-run-post-system-check.html
    need-help-post-your-system-check-here.html
    install-priiloader-block-online-disc-updates-more.html

    If you want to check if you have priiloader, turn on your Wii while pressing the "reset" button; priiloader should load.
    Turn on the Wii and watch the drive light. If it flashes once then bootmii = IOS (or not installed). If it flashes twice then Bootmii is Boot2
    It is 4.1U, your IOS and cIOS maybe already updated and all you need is a SD card.
    guide-fat32.html
    Create a folder named "apps" in the root of the SD and put the USB Loaders apps in it
    CFG Usb loader v70 update toCFG Loader r48 or wiiflow v4.0.1 r431or usbloader GX update toUSB Loader GX R1200,Replace the boot.dol in your SD /apps/ usbloader_gx with the updated one ( r1200_IOS249) and create a wbfs folder on your SD for WII games.

    Spoiler

    Unhappy Another puzzled user.

    I am encountering the same issue. I'm trying to set up a backup using cfg 70r47 (my Wii has 4.3U, was Letterbombed, and now has all the essentials in place). The thing is, I don't want to plug in any USB device because it is being set up for an environment with kids in it who might pull the plug out, so I want to play the backup straight from the SDHC card. Trouble is, I can't seem to get cfg to default to the SD card. It keeps wanting to start from a USB device that is not there, prompting an error and forcing me to intervene when I want it to work automatically. I have already edited the settings.cfg file and the meta.xml file to point to the sdhc device and the sd:/usb-loader directory, yet every time I launch it, it still wants to go to the USB slot first (which is empty and meant to stay empty). Once I get cfg into the GUI, it can see and launch the game fine (so it is not a partition compatibility issue), but it's the startup that's the issue since it means I cannot perform an automated forwarding. Is there anything I may have missed in keeping it from defaulting to SDHC?

    ADDENDUM: I have also determined that placing any FAT-formatted USB flash drive in the appropriate port removes the problem. It is that lack of presence that trips up cfg. Any suggestions?

    I don't think you need to edit the meta file. In the root of your SD card is a folder called usb-loader. Open that folder and find the config.txt file. Edit that.
    This is what mine looks like.
    theme = Glass
    music = sd:/usb-loader/music
    device = sd
    gui = start
    gui_transition = fade
    gui_style = coverflow3d
    gui_rows = 2

    If you copy mine put a music folder in the usb-loader folder and put your music in there.

    I already tried that. I also tried settings.cfg, which is supposed to take precedence over config.txt. Editing meta.xml was a last resort as it provides immediate overrides, and I have to use it anyway to tell it to use cIOS 248. Even with all SD settings, it would still try to seek the USB first before loading from the SD, and this meant it didn't automatically go to the UI since you had to tell cfg to stop searching for a USB. I think I'll just go for a tiny USB drive and find a way to cover it or otherwise keep it from being pulled by mistake.

    Have you tried running the cfgusbloaderconfigurator.exe it should be in the usb-loader folder. Not sure that it can change the base though, or game load location, but its worth a try.
    This is what my meta file looks like.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
    <app version="1">
    <name>Configurable USB Loader</name>
    <version>unknown</version>
    <release_date>unknown</release_date>
    <coder>oggzee, usptactical, gannon, Clipper, ...</coder>
    <short_description>Play from USB drive</short_description>

    Play Wii Backups from USB harddrive
    Waninkoko cIOS 249 is supported.
    Hermes cIOS 222/223 is supported.
    USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
    </long_description>
    <arguments>
    <arg>ios = 248</arg>
    </arguments></app>

    This is what my settings.cfg looks like.
    # CFG USB Loader settings file 70
    # Note: This file is automatically generated

    # Global Settings:
    theme = Glass
    device = sdhc
    partition = FAT1
    gui_style = coverflow3d
    gui_rows = 2

    # Profiles: 1
    [profile=default]
    # Favorite Games: 0
    # Current profile: 1
    profile = default

    # Hidden Games: 1
    hide_game = __CF

    # Game Options: 0
    # END

    It works for me from SD only.
    sd/apps/USBLoader/meta.xml
    sd/usb-loader/config.txt
    sd/usb-loader/settings.cfg
