    Should I hack my wii?

I mean, I really have no reason for it. I just heard about it. What's so good about hacking it? The risk really seems too high though.

risk is pretty low, as long as you follow word by word, step by step, according to "SoftMod Any Wii" .
after hcking, at least, you could play rmvb and mp3 and browse youtube, in addtion to just gaming with the Wii console.
Needless to say the fun of oldie games from SNES, GameCube,....etc. :P

one last reason: you hack it. once bricked, you've a good excuse to buy Wii-U.

I've recently gotten it in June, after begging my parents for a good 2 years, I don't want to screw it up or anything...

As billyhome said if you follow the guide to the T and don't go messing around with custom menus or custom themes you will be fine.

But the again, if you have no reason to, I wouldn't recommend doing it. You shouldn't hack anything without a reason or a goal in mind. For instance, I hacked and softmodded my Wii so that I could play games off of the USB drive and keep the scratch magnets, I mean discs, safe and sound. That's my reason; plus I had an old Wii that was long past warranty.

Considering that you have a new Wii which is under warranty, and the amount of time it took to acquire said Wii, I wouldn't recommend hacking it. You probably don't have too many games and it sounds like no kids (kids + discs = bad mojo). I would recommend holding off. Actually, you shoulda forgone the Wii and held off for the Wii-U, but I digress.

Speaking of Wii-U, it'll be pretty tough to convince the parents to get one for you if you managed to brick your Wii within months of getting it...

The jist is: if you don't know why you're doing it, then don't do it!

    OK, let me rephrase that.....

    my kids + discs = bad mojo! (ages 1.5, 4, 5, 11, 13, 13)

My eldest boy, age 5, suddenly decided that he really wants to load games from the discs, I came home last night and found an empty MK case on the ground. Looked up at the Wii, pressed Eject, and sure enough, out popped Mario Kart. Gonna have to hide those suckers, now!

Yeah if you have no reason to mod it don't do it, but if you want to put you games up to keep them safe and not scratching them up, the kids had one of the xbox360 games and playing frisbee with it when came home.
