I got lucky! But still have a few issues....

I just softmod'ed our Wii just last week using the forum's sticky and the most current versions of all software mentioned there in. While waiting to save for an hdd, I was going through our den where I've a stack of old hdd's. I found an old 250gb Hitachi Deskstar. With the wife's blessing I went over to our local computer store and bought an off brand enclosure. After mounting the drive in the case, then following the fat32 sticky, I connected it up and then used USB Loader GX. And to my amazment it worked. An hour or so later I had the first 20 games of our collection installed. I stopped at this point to make sure everything was working okay.

And this is where I found a few issues. Hopefully I can get some advice on how to fix a few minor problems. Keep in mind I used USB Loader GX to install back-up to the hdd during all this.

1)Chicken blaster loads okay, but the colors are all washed out, and appear nearly black and white.

2)Glee won't load. Locks up Wii, have to reboot it. It is recognized by Wiiflow, and will work from there.

3)MW3 just goes to a black screen and says "loading..." but never actually loads. Like Glee, it will load from Wiiflow though.

4)I was going to mention that after installing Madden 2013, USB Loader GX didn't recognize it. But I did see, and could play it via Wiiflow. Since my wife installed Wheel of Fortune, I can now see Madden's icon in our USB Loader's game menu. Go figure.

It is my plan to add only 10-20 games at a time, so I can go back and make sure everything is working okay. But during this process I did notice an issue that even if everything does work right away without needing any more tweeking, is once you're done with a game, how do you set USB Loader Gx so that I exit the game and return to it's menu screen without having to hit the home button and reboot the wii? I did download USB Loader's ReadMII, and will print it out so I can have a hard copy while I familarize myself with all of it's features. Probably do the same with Wiiflow,

Any help with these issues would be greatly appreciated!

From personal experience.... no external enclosure works trouble free, save your self the trouble and get a good "compatible" external hard drive, as I explained this before... the problem is not the hard drive itself but the controller board in the external enclosure, you'll be able to rip almost any game you want but you'll be lucky if you get a few that work without issues.

That may have been your experience. But mine has been....THIS WORKS. Since I posted, the issue with Madden 2013 corrected it's self. USB Loader now recognizes it. I also figured out how to set USB loader so that when I quit a game it goes back to it's rather then having to reboot the console all the time.

My better half also insisted I install more of her games last night. Mostly music and singing related ones. And then of course I had to add a few my daughter wanted. I've nearly 40 games installed. Of those, the only problems that still remain is Glee crashing in Usb loader, but working in wiiflow. And the colors seem to be washed out. This is also happening with Pac-Man Party. Since the color issue is limited to only two games, and the other game crashing is limited to only one game, it would seem to me this is a software setting error. I just need to tweek USB Loarder GX in order for them to work right.

I have been running my Wii on an Acom external enclosure for years without issue. I've also used Rosewill enclosures (real cheap 2.5" non powered ones) with good result. The newer cios support a wider range of drives. Generally the only issue is turning off power management, and that would manifest itself as a "stall" some time into using the game.

Understood...This is a off brand enclosure I got at MicroCenter for $15. Honestly, I do intend to eventually move everything onto a WD mybook or essential. Have heard many say good things about them on here... In the mean time, I still don't think my issues are with the hard drive-controller or the enclosure. I think it has to do with some settings within USB Loader GX. And just my luck the only games that have issues are my wife's. Here two Glee Karoake games, Sing it: Italian party, and Pac-man Party, and Chicken Blaster. The two glee games will load via wiiflow, but won't run under USB Loader GX. Chicken Blaster, Pac-man Party, and Sing it all work but the colors are muted under either loader. Suggestions?

Ya know I didn't even think to look at that yet. Was just concentrating on getting our games backed up. I only peeked at Wiiflow, because orginally I was going to burn copies of our games then play them via wiiflow or neogamma. (Neither worked btw, must have done something wrong when burning...). Then when I came across the hard drive I mentioned and took the risk on buying an enclosure. The rest is history. I'll take a look at CFX later. Two questions in reguards to CFX. Do I have to do anything differently with the game files on the hard drive? (it's formated to fat32 with a wbfs directory as per the Fat32 sticky). Secondly, since it seems the problem might be having the correct cIOS set, does it auto detect which one each game needs, or do I have to specify?

Update. Played around with it some more. Have everything setup now in CFX. Did a bit more digging and reading on the forums. Just made me even more confused. While my system was built in 2006 according to the s/n data base. It has the most current system os (4.3U). I also used the most current versions of all software mentioned in the guild. Now I'm wondering if this is an cIOS issue. I read the sticky on "load any game ios" and reviewed the list within. Unfortunilly the few games that aren't working aren't listed either. Although Karaoke revolution glee was. I didn't see the cIOS suggested in the list within CFX. I did see mentioned some sticky/faq/guild about music and singing games but cannot find it, even via the search tool. Perhaps I'm having an old man's blonde moment??? Untill I find that guild, I'm gonna concentrate on the two other games I'm having issues with. Chicken Blaster and Pac-man party.

Those two games work. Just the color is really washed out. Even before you get to the opening page, once you choose "play" from any of the loaders the screen is like looking at one of those old time 3d movies without the cheapo red/green cardboard glasses. I see various video options in all three loaders, could that be the issue, rather then which version cIOS the game is using? If so what?

Couple things..

First, what are the first 6 characters in your serial number... chances are you are seeing the copyright date, not the actual mfg date...

Third, what region is your console? As you alluded to, you may need to change the video settings in your loader for each of the games you are having those issues with...

S/N starts with LY3773xxxxx. Os version is 4.3u, understand u stands for USA. Also read more on updating the cIOS. Don't with to offend anyone but the instructions aren't as clear as those for doing the original softmod. I did make some notes. Tried loading Chicken blaster, each time changing the ios version. There isn't many listed. Just 245, 246, 247, 248,249,250 and 251. (I wrote those down while trying to play Karaoke Revolution Glee). I did notice when loading via CFX, that once you hit play, you'll get a loading screen. While loading Chicken Blaster it said ios53 and Glee's said ios57. Also of note Chicken blaster also had a couple other options for ios that ended with yal. Each time I tried those, locked up my console had to shut off via power button then reboot.

I do admit, in an attempt to keep my family's gaming costs as low as possible, I'm usually buying games at flea markets, garage sales, craigslist. Only time I buy games from stores is from sale dump bins or used ones from Gamestop or even Toyz r us. Can some times find great deals ($5 or less!). But even if I somehow got my hands on an out of region game disk, from what I can tell that shouldn't matter once I've softmoded.

I don't know if this will help at all, but Karaoke Revolution Glee 1&2 won't load under either CFX or Usb loader GX, Nor will Black ops. But all three games work fine under Wiiflow. Also it's only the glee music related games that won't work. Wife told me she played both Guitar Hero and Rock Band for 3 hours last night with no problems under USB Loader GX.

About the only other thing I can think of to do now is, after I wrestle the console from our daughter (we just got a used copy of Mario Kart), I write down what versions of the three loaders I have. Then post that info as well.
