    Help with game freezing

Hello, I had mario kart wii freeze on me today. Here is the setup I have:

-followed Mauifrogs software setup guide, everything working fine (thanks for the really awesome guide!!!)
-DL'd backup copy of the game (scrubbed iso)***
-using usbloader gx to run the game off of an external hd (which was formatted using a guide I found here)
-used savegame manager gx to export/import a save game from the internet

So the three most probable causes as I see them are:
-fault with the HD- it is an old 5400 rpm HD that I ripped from an old laptop and put in an enclosure to make it an external.
    -the usb loader gx
-the iso I downloaded could be bad.

Is there any way to know what caused the problem? I just powered off the wii by holding the power button. It was not responsive to any other button presses. My main concern here is to not damage my wii. Thanks for your time!

***My 1 yr old son ejected the game when I wasn't looking and chewed on it. Yeah, he is teething. And unfortunately I can not play the disk, read it, or make back up copies of it. It is scratched up pretty badly. This is actually the entire reason why I got into homebrew. I refuse to buy another copy just because the powers that be want to do away with fair use.

Why did you download a save file? Maybe that caused the problem.

I unlocked some decent stuff, but the save got deleted from the wii somehow. My guess is that my 4 yr old had something to do with it. I really don't have time to re-unlock all that crap, so save game it is. I tested out another game from the same HD and it works fine, so I am inclined to think it may be the iso I used. Will post back if I find anything out.

Well just so you know, that is cheating. We do not support cheating or piracy. I cannot close this from my phone or I would. Please read the rules.

Downloading games, or even save games from the Internet is cheating and piracy cause you have just obtained a copy of a game FREE, which means loss for the Game producer/Nintendo.

It depends on where you live I suppose but in the USA we have "fair use" which means that if you own a cd for example, you can copy it to listen in your car, copy for work, etc, as long as it is for personal use. Making a copy for a friend is perhaps a gray area but generally considered illegal (in the usa). Not to derail the thread or anything. Cmon Kun, stop watching those tv ads where they try to scare you from downloading stuff. In fact many artists offer their work for free DL through torrent sites, dropbox, etc. So just because I download something does not make it illegal.

In this case I own a copy of both games that I Dl'd so in the usa it is perfectly legal to obtain a copy. Same goes for nes roms, mp3s, movies, etc. You should really learn your rights as a consumer. You may be surprised at how much big companies take advantage of the legal system and copy protection basically to get more money from your pocket. Normally I would not go on about it but I think it is important for people to know these things.

Anyways, after getting a second iso of mariokart the problem persists. I think it may be the HD which is a hitachi (a brand that seems to be problematic).

And I would just like to point out that sharing save games does not cost nintendo or the producer anything lol. I just have better things to do than play mariokart for 20 hours so my kids can have the sooper blooper or whatever again. You act like I am beating up old ladies or robbing a bank or something. You guys are a riot

I did not call you a pirate, just a cheater. You dif well to cover the piracy issue in your first post. I agree with the fair use statement. I don't really want to put it to the test in court when it comes to Nintendo though. I don't care if you cheat, that's up to you. I was pointing out that wiihacks does not help people cheat, it is against the site rules.

It's probably an hdd compatibility issue like you have figured out. I know some Hitachi drives work, my nephew uses one.
