transferring virtual console games to replacement wii

Hi, I have been searching for a solution for several hours and searched this forum and havent found a satisfying answer.

I had a wii for a long time and the disc drive on it got broke by my kids shoving things in it, so I bought a replacement. I used letterbomb and started hacking it yesterday. I figured out how to transfer my mario kart and smash bros. save. I would like to transfer my virtual console titles to the new wii now....

I have found this is done by installing the wads, but all the info I have found on the subject seems to assume you downloaded your wads illegally. I have seen references to using a nand dump to do this somehow but the info has been cryptic and vague. I found something called the wad creator channel and I might give that a try. I am really surprised this info seems to me so hard to find.....I heard nintendo is finally going to fix this pain in the rear when the Wii U comes out and allow people to tranfer their titles to the new system....cool. But for right now can any one give me a straight forward way to take my VC titles of my old wii and install the wads on my replacement wii? I am sort of scared to just start looking for pirated wads to try and do this since I have legal copies.

ShowMiiWads is the tool you are looking for. You will be able to extract the wads you want from your old nand then you can re-install them on your new one.

thanks for the reply. So you do this all on the PC? Back up the nand and extract the wads from the nand dump and then install the wads on the new wii.

I cant get it to work. I run showmiiwads, I created a common key, I changed the NANd backup path to where I saved the NAND backup (nand.bin and keys.bin), I changed the view....its shows 0 folders and 0 files

Yes, pc to extract the wads from the old nand then wad manager to install them onto the new Wii.

Not sure on changing the names in Mario kart. Maybe if you load your miis from the old Wii then re install the game save. Just guessing there though.

Maybe I am dumping the NAND wrong....I just used bootmii to do it but the file is only around 500 MB or so, there is no way that it contains all my vitual console games. I got Ocarina of time, Mario 64, original Zelda, SMB3, Castlevania 3, Ninja Gaiden

Yep, that's all the internal memory the Wii has.

I was looking around and saw a guide which I can't seem to find anymore....it mentioned I had to do something like run a program on the NAND dump I got from bootmii to extract it before I can manipulate it in showmiiwads. How do I do this?

Also that guide was talking about using wii flow to play games from an emulated NAND.....is that the only way to do it? I was thinking I would get the WADs and be able to install them with with mulit mod manager and just have them as channels on the regular system menu just the way they were on my old wii.

I think I found the instructions to decrypt the NAND before I can get it to work in showmiiwads, Is this right?:

    2. Put the nand.bin file you get from the BootMii dump in the nand-tools folder

    3. In the nand-tools folder, run nand-aes-dump.exe. It will extract your AES key from your nand.bin into a file called nand-key.bin.

    4. Proceed by opening the cmd.lnk and a command prompt should pop up.

    5. In the command prompt, type --> "NAND-bin2raw.exe nand.bin nand_dec.bin" (without quotes) and press enter. It should start the decrypting process. You should end up with 2 .bin files: an encrypted and a decrypted nand dump.

    6. Next, type in that command prompt "zestig.exe nand-key.bin nand_dec.bin nand" (without quotes) and press enter. It should have decrypted everything and placed it into a new folder called nand.

Ok, I that seemed to work. I packed WADs from the nand backup.

for some reason it wont let me do Ocarina of Time....it gives me an error saying the Give paths format is not supported. I think this is because of ":" in the channel titles name.....is there anyway around this?

Next I have to try to install these WADs I just packed on the new wii, hope that goes smooth.

No luck, the wads wont install. Can anyone help?

well I am finally just giving up, info on doing this seems to be very difficult to find.

Anyway NAND emulation seems to be the only solution that I can get to work. I put my dumped and decrypted nand from my old wii in to a folder called nand on the root of my sd card and USB loader GX seems to play my VC and wii ware titles just fine once I direct it to use the proper ios.
