    Couple of hard drive questions

    Hi everyone

First question: I have a 320 gig Seagate laptop drive in an external enclosure. When launching USB Loader GX i can see the drive's light turn off (goes to sleep) and then GX can't find it. After I go back into the main Wii screen the drive turns back on again. It seems to work ok with CFG USB Loader though. Any ideas on how to get it working with GX?

Second question: I have an external 500 gig desktop drive in an external enclosure. Neither GX or CFG loaders will recognize the drive. I've been "told" that desktop hard drives don't work right, is this true? or is it my enclosure that's the problem?

    I'm running GX 3.0, CFG u70-r15 and Wii 4.3u

    thanks for any help

Answer to fist question: It might be that the drive simply doesn't work with the drive, but there are some things you can try. First thing you can try is using the latest version of GX and trying to use different cIOS to load GX (you can set which IOS to use as default, which is also used to load GX). Second thing you can try is going to the manufactuers site and see if they have tools for your drive that allow disabling energy saving features.

Answer to second question: This is not true. Desktop drives can be placed in an enclosure and be used for back-up loading. It could be that the enclosure is incompatible, but it could also be the drive itself. Again, you could try using different cIOS to load it, but it is unlikely to help.

Ok, thanks Bliepo for your help. I will take your advice and try what you suggested. I think they're great ideas.

Just a quick update. Changing the Cios in GX to 248 solved my first problem, thanks!
Still working on issue 2. I have tried 2 different drive enclosures for 5.25 drives but neither work. I'll keep looking.
