Internet activation after softmodding on 4.3 E - possible ?

    Hello everyone !

I read a lot about internet activation, but I got confused. I hope I don't double post but i haven't seen anyone asking this ...primordial question. To skip straight to the subject, these are the facts:

I softmodded the console, by following a video. I know, it's dangerous, but i'm pretty sure i got it right, as most of the backed up games i played from an USB worked, and i followed the same steps as in other tutorials.

I connected to the wireless - no internet however.

Now, in order to connect to the internet, i am asked to turn on wiiconnect24. If i try to turn on connect24 thingy, i am asked to agree with ....Network agreement of service and update my system. Obviously I cannot accept the agreement/update the service, as EVERYWHERE on the internet is written NOT to do that. Well, it kinda makes sense.

I've read somewhere that on a 4.3 system, if already softmodded, you cannot connect to the internet anymore. Is that right ? If not, what should I do ? I have not installed any other browsers, or shop ...channels....or anything like that (except for homebrew, usb loader, wiiflow).

    Thanks in advance.

you will need to accept the terms to access the internet. If the guide you followed was worth anything it will have had you install priiloader to block any updates.

First of all, thanks for the fast answer.

Well it was the same thing as the guide on the forums, from as much as i can tell ( the softmoding tutorial).

Yes, I did install priiloader. I did block updates both from net and disk (enabled the protection/block).

Now, let me retrace my steps, to present 3 situations:
1). Settings>internet>connection settings>connection 'n'> connection test. Test is successful but i am asked whether i want to "Perform a Wii system update". Isn't this the update we are all supposed to fear ? The Nintendo System Update ? (or smth like that)

2). Settings>internet>agreement/contact. I am asked whether i want to use Wii Shop Channel and WiiConnect24. If I go for YES i get a "connecting to the internet message" for a short while, then: "Wiiconnect24 and Wii shop channel service is not currently being offered". There is only an OK button which returns me to menu.

3). Settings>wiiConnect24. I only entered once, kept going for "yes, activate" or something like that, until i got a message that if i choose YES, the system will be checked (or updated?) and if it has suffered any modifications, I quote: "the console will become inoperable, instant or with a delay" (okay, not a perfect quote).

I'm afraid even to enter there again, lol.

So, how do I actually CONNECT to the internet ?

Am I connected, but the "channels" or "services" such as shop, weather, news do not work because they need WIICONNECT24 ?

    or

Am I NOT connected to the internet at all until I ...activate...something ?

*Note: I imagine that priiloader's blocking option works only for auto-updates ? I am not used to other consoles' (meaning other than PC) updating system. So, let me rephrase: priiloader BLOCKS updates even if I accept an update ?

I'm confused and the reason for my rather exhaustive details is not that i wish an exhaustive explanation.

So, should i just...accept the agreement (meaning that I should accept a system update ? Will priiloader surely block it ?

I would say that we're gonna have to take a look at your SysCheck. Click Here for instructions on how to do so. I'm inclined to say that there are one of two possible scenarios here:

1.) Something is incomplete, incorrect, or "out of whack" with your hack. This is why it's highly recommended that everyone follow the guides here and not random guides on the interwebz. They have the potential of being incorrect, out of date, or possibly able to brick your Wii. (Hey, I'm guilty of that as well....that's what got me here).

2.) Something is going on with your network connection. Did everything work before the mod? Did you change anything with your ISP or Wifi?

I softmodded a 4.3U and didn't have any problems with connecting to the internet. I don't have WiiConnect24 enabled, but I am able to use the Wii Shop channel and everything else (alright, I haven't tried the Weather channel or anything, but I'll give that a quickie try tonight). From the connection test, it sounds like your Wii is actually connecting, are you able to play multiplayer games like Mario Kart or SSBB?

I didn't try to connect to the internet before the mod. More than that, I haven't even tried accessing anything online, except for the shop channel and...standard...stuff (the standard channels). To tell you the truth, I might be connected and not know it o.O.

I'll send a SysCheck thingy soon, as i cannot now.

    Thanks for your help.

You bet. One of the snags that I ran into with networking is DNS servers.... the Wii would pass the connection test (I believe) but wouldn't connect to anything else until I added the Google DNS servers as the name servers in my router's config.

    DNS 1: 8.8.8.8
    DNS 2: 8.8.4.4

If you continue to have issues connecting, try adding those as as your DNS servers and see if that helps. You may even be able to add them as a secondary or tertiary DNS entry and have them work.
