Ah, so if you have the black wii, you can only play GameCube games from the SD card?

You can use Dios Mios or Dios Mios Lite... however, most black wii's don't have gamecube controller ports or a disk drive that accepts gamecube disks. I bought a black wii and replaced it with an old mobo and disk drive which allowed me to play gamecube games.

Is there a guide to that somewhere? Is that something not recommended for someone with little Wii modding experience?

Seriously what good would a wiimote be when used as a GameCube controller substitute, I guess you could just imagine It had an analogue stick and more buttons.

If you want to replace the mobo / dvd drive, you can follow this disassembly guide Nintendo Wii Teardown - iFixit
and when re-assembling just work backwards.
