PAL Wii playing NTSC-J (VC game) with weird lag and sound-glitches.
Hello all. I tried searching around but couldn't find something similiar. I'm sure I'd understand more in a coupl of weeks but I just started this "adventure" yesterday when I bought an old (original) used Wii and softmodded it using the LetterBomb stuff for 4.3.
The Wii is european (PAL). I got help from a friend and we installed/patched what seems to be needed for me to get and play NTSC-J VC games (LoZ:OOT in particular, VC - not n64 emulated).
The game loads and seems to work, but I'm having these weird frame-skips/lags and the sound is all glitchy. Almost as if the game is set at a different speed.
I did NOT install anything specific for changing the region, apart from changing it in the bootmii settings which seemed to work (correct me if I'm wrong, this was last night and I'm at work now so I can't check facts 100%)
Should I need to install/patch something else for this to work smoothly? Any settings I've missed? Any framerate-caps or something?
Also, I'm not 100% certain of what me and my friend did yesterday is the newest, best and most up to date mods. Maybe I should go back and redo it, following the great guide you have here on this forum? If so, any quick tips on where I should start for reverting/removing what I've already added and start over? A link and a quick "read this here" would work just fine, I can comprehend most of this - it's just that it's an overwhelming amount of info at once so you don't know where to look :-)
Hope you understand and sorry for not asking on IRC or something, its protocol seems to be blocked at my workplace ^.^ Thanks in advance.
First of all sorry if I misunderstood your question, just woke up
Secondly, you say your wii is 4.3; change it to 4.1. DON'T try to downgrade it, simply go to the "Softmod Any Wii" guide on this website and follow the ENTIRE thing from "wiis with HBC already installed". You don't mention following this guide so in order for us to give you the best help it's great if you can follow this guide as we'll know you have all the required cIOS/IOS, etc.
Thirdly, playing emulated games usually makes the game feel as if it is going too fast or skipping frames. There should actually be a frame skip option in the settings. Frame skip is used to increase performance but it shouldn't be needed on the wii. In order to fix the buggy sound / game going too fast, you will need to enable the sound and possibly change the sound plugin. When sound is disabled, the game may run too fast as it relies on the sound to keep it's speed.
Thank you for the reply. Following the tutorial from that step helped, i changed the region to NTSC-U and installed 4.1 system menu (allthough the tutorial said not to) and that fixed the lag on NTSC-J VC games!

Well do you know if your wii can play backed up disks? That's the first thing you need to know, as newer wii's are unable to play backup disks.
If it can play backup disks, follow this tutorial:
