Not recognizing USB?
So I've followed mauifrog's guide to softmod my wii, and I finally purchased a compatible usb flash drive (PNY Attache 16gb), and I've run into some issues. When I first plugged it in, USB loader GX and Configurable USB loader each seemed to be ok with the flash drive and they recognized it was there and it displayed how much space was available and stuff. However, when I tried to install a game I had on disk onto the flash drive, both USB loader GX and Configurable USB loader just kind of froze up immediately and I couldn't cancel out. So I tried to format the flash drive to NTFS to see if that made a difference, but then the usb loaders seemed to not accept it at all. They would start up, but give me an error saying something along the lines of "the device is not recognized" or something. When I formatted back to FAT32, it went back to my original problem.
The flash drive itself is on the list of compatible flash drives, so I thought that couldn't be it... I have no idea what to do at this point, and I haven't had much luck with google and whatnot. Any ideas?
btw, in case it matters, I posted a system check in the system check thread. I'm apparently not supposed to put it here though, so I guess you'll just have to go and look for it. http://www.wiihacks.com/software-bac...-here-220.html
Almost everything looks good. I just don't know how your on system menu 4.3 and your Ios's are not up to date.(Example: Ios13 rev1031 when it should say ios13 rev1032)

They are dependent on your cios, and your Cios are fine.
Make sure you have it plugged into the right port ,when looking from the back of the wii.
Make sure you have the drive formatted to primary and active.
Try a different drive if you can.
How do I do that? I'm completely new to formatting in general, and I don't know much about hardware...

Read that Guide and it will explain as well as show you how to do it.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction jax. I'm still having some issues though... I formatted the flash drive to primary and active, and it is definitely in the correct (right, nearest the edge) usb port, but it still doesn't quite work. USB Loader GX still freezes up at 0.00% downloaded, but Configurable USB Loader is able to make it to about 68%-78% installed before it stops and everything stops responding. When I plugged the flash drive back into the computer, it has a bunch of random files ranging from 0-3.5 gb or so with names like ▄qkww▄┌.j█╞, as well as a bunch of empty folders with names like ╟p╢▌╢┌.█ and ╟w¼v█.v╟m (all just random gibberish as far as I can tell, all with different names). USB Loader GX seems to recognize that I tried to put the games in with Configurable USB Loader, and it has the game listed for each time that I tried with CFG loader, but when I try to open it up it just sends me back to the Wii menu. Any thoughts? I appreciate the help so far, by the way!
Edit: A friend let me try one of their wbfs games that they had backed up to see if the flash drive works, and the game worked fine. So it's not the flash drive, apparently... also, I can't delete the random files in the flash drive, and CFG Loader is freezing up at 0% installed now... :/ adding up all of the gb from the weirdly named files, it exceeds the free space on my flash drive. I'm quite confused...
Can you format it , to erase all that gibberish?
I never heard of the loaders destroying a drive.
Check to see if the company's site has a program to check the thumb drive out.
Yes, I've gotten the gibberish before, and I can format it out. The only thing is, since it can play games that have already been backed up, I don't know why it won't install them... The only thing that I can think now is upon further research, the flash drive that I bought was mislabeled on amazon, because according to the PNY website I have the attache 2 16gb, not just the attache 16gb. Is it possible that it has just enough in common with the attache 16gb on the compatibility list to play games, but not install them?
Could be! It might not be fully compatible.
Amazon needs to be more responsible when it comes to these things.
So I finally got the proper flash drive and just tried it out with my New Super Mario Bros Wii disc. USB Loader GX seemed to work fine, it loaded from 0% to 100%, but then it just kind of stopped. There was no "successfully installed" message, it just kind of froze and I had to turn the Wii off. I tried it twice, and when I look at the flash drive in my computer, one of the folders it made had a bunch of random gibberish stuff like the last time, but one of my attempts made a normal-looking folder with a single file that looks like a normal wbfs file, but it's called SMNE01.wbfs.tmp. I'm assuming I don't want it to be a tmp file. Is there a way to safely make it just a normal wbfs file? Or am I doing something wrong to make my wii freeze once it finishes installing, and making it a tmp file?
Bump...? Does anyone have a solution...? Basically it seems like my only problem now is that it's making a tmp file, and I don't know what to do about that. Is this a normal problem?
