Day 2: I formatted SD and need some pointers

    Hello WiiHacks,

I've got to say this forum is lively, dedicated and informational. I am impressed with the guides and the general knowledge you people have. With that said, I should advise, this is only my second day of wii hacking/modding. Please bear with me.

I soft modded my 4.3u Wii via the guide with the Mario frog on the top. Everything went well it seems, as I followed every step of the guide and everything that it said would happen - did. Sweet!

BUT, today I thought "okay I did it, lets try to load a back up". I formatted my SD card and put the backup on it. But bootmi (I figured I should check in there for how to load the backup) bootmii however wouldn't load. Some reading lead me to find out that the bootmii files needed to be on the SD card for it to work. I put those on and it worked! But, I don't know how to load a back up from there or anywhere.

I had formatted my SD like I said. I have a feeling that I needed to NOT do that after I finished the soft modding process.

With that said. Should I have specific files on my SD to try to load a back up? If so, which ones?

Also, based on what I said I want to do, could you guys maybe point me in the direction of threads I may be missing? Eventually I'd like have an external - but right now I want to stick to the basics.

    Thank you.

Bootmii is for backing up your nand.(In case your wii stops working)

Now to play games through usb/sd you will need a loader.(Usb loader gx/Cfg Loader/WiiFlow/Neogamma)
Those will either be put on your Sd card or will install as a Full Channel.
Full channels don't need the sd card in the wii, they work off of your nand.(That's where it's installed As A Full Channel)

If you put it on your sd card it will look like this, Sd/apps/Usb loader Gx/.Dol
This means it will need the sd card in the wii to load up the Usb loader gx.

Since you followed the Soft mod Any Wii Guide ,you can go back and download the app pack and install it back to your sd card.

Have a look at this link.-->Wii Softmodding -Basics and Beyond
That link has every link to everything you need to know.

Please read everything carefully and until you understand it.

Letterbomb is an exploit to mod your wii ,without the need of a game.(For 4.3 Wii's)

    Please read everything carefully.Please!!
I don't want to hear you saying your Wii is bricked.

Thank you Jax! Anything else general you'd reccomend to read? I think I saw a "things not to do" thread somewhere yesterday.

So here is where I am. I put the modpack back onto my sd and usb just in case. (I don't even know if the flash drive I have is compatable, it's old.. but I put the files on both to be safe.)

I downloaded wad manager and installed the wad file I was given to test and it (the wad) installed right to the home page and works fine.

For the letterbox, etc. I followed the rules down to the T. I have experience with modding xbox, rooting android and since 1992 I've been breaking, fixing and exploiting PC's. :P So far I've never permanently broken anything! LOL

I have all the "step 2" files backed up on my PC from when I backed up the nand and stuff. So as long as I have all that, I really should be safe - unless I seriously did something bad? However I usually don't venture into the tasks that could really mess a device up.

    Thanks again for the assistance.
