Question Just bought a Wii, looking for advice on mods.

As the title says, I just bought a Wii for $50 and want to mod it.

But the problem is even after searching and reading for hours I am not sure what the best options are.

I'll list what I want out of it and maybe someone can suggest either hard mods or soft mods?

    • play dvds
    • play all video formats from USB
    • play video from SD
    • store and play games from USB
    • store and play games from SD

A lot of the info I have found jumps right in and is over my head and already assumes I know everything there to know about Wii's when I really know nothing, the rest is up to 5-6 years old and I am sure its outdated.

Thanks for any advice, I'll keep this thread updated with how everything goes.

(sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I thought this one is most appropriate)

Thanks, I actually read the soft mod guide and found it a bit daunting but I guess if I followed it through I could probably do it.

I had no luck searching for the guide by Bluphant, Ill keep trying to search for it.

    *edit*
Found it, not really a guide but a few good tips.

Ill follow the guide when I receive it, will this allow what I want or will I have to get add on's to do those things after its soft modded?

    This is that guide:
    http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html
    1) Softmod Wii with this guide. Now you can play games from USB (not sure about SD, I've only a 1GB card)
    2) Download WiiMC and channel installer from here: WiiMC » Downloads. Copy the WiiMC folder and WiiMC channel installer folder to the "apps" folder in your SD Card (you'll have this folder if you followed the guide on the first link, make it if you don't). Launch the channel installer with HBC (you should know how to do this if you followed the guide). Now you have the WiiMC forwarder channel. Put in your SD card with the apps folder, and launch the channel. You can now play movies and songs from USB, SD, and even CD's (if your Wii supports it).
Red Wii SysMenuX, Priiloader 0.7, Bootmii as IOS 254, USB Loader GX, uLoader 5.1E with external DVD drive, MauiFrog softmod. HBC 1.1, Backup HBC 1.0.3.

All modded, works pretty well apart from it goes black and wont respond after I open bootmii.

Might try start over again sometime if it becomes a problem.

You need to have the bootmii folder on the sd card to access it
