    A couple questions HDD related

Hey guys, just got back into this hacking stuff so im rusty but just a few questions.

I followed the guides on this site to prep my external HDD. My initial hacks done with the guides here are all via SD. Everything works fine.

The problem im having is with the HDD. I have to cycle the power if i leave the Wii off for any amount of time or USB loader will not recognize it. Once i do that everything is fine. This leads me to believe the Wii is having trouble waking the HDD out of sleep mode maybe. Any thoughts?

Also my HDD only has one partition which is the whole drive. Is it OK to load on roms, MP3's Video files on to the this partition that also holds my backups?

blackzc, Firstly you must seek and turn off the sleep mode, You will have constant problems if you don't. When you formatted your drive this is normally removed. My technique is to use Easeus partition manager, Format HDD to FAT32 then set as primary and active. Add the apps etc, and a folder called (wbfs) this is where the game files will go when you rip your discs to your HDD. Thats about it. No need for split partitions make another folder called ( my Stuff) you can put whatever you want in it.doc's music, movies, Depends how many GB you have.

Sorry i wasn't more clear. I have some of my games backed up so everything is fine there. Also have emu/roms running fine on a 8gb SD but i am running out of room on that.

The easeus partition program was used to format. I followed the guide. I will have to hunt up my pack in software for my HDD online since i bought it used. Unless there is a way to do it in easus.

Hard dive is a WD 500GB. From some googling i did i found that WD drives have a hard coded sleep mode that cannot be disabled. There is a workaround for this right?

I'm not sure on that, Workaround. As I am usually working with new drives I format to remove the manufacturers software, Never used WD drives. However Quite a few of the drives I have done Have WD drives in a third party enclosure. Only the seagate drives have ever presented a challenge. I then use Seagate Manager to turn sleep mode to NEVER. Best of luck and keep searching. If you have all the originals you could try Formatting and reripping games.
