    Help with softmod update

Hi I was just wondering if anyone could help me with a softmod update? I have ios58 currently installed and 4.3 system menu. I am usually pretty saavy with this kind of stuff but am having a really hard time understand most of it so if someone could explain it clearly that would be great. My goal is to install wiiflow so i can test my backed up games. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here we recommend following the "softmod any wii" guide-->http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html
Follow it step by step and you'll be fine. Good idea to read through it a couple of times first. Good luck.

I am currently following the guide and installing the wads and i'm a bit confused about the part that says to install wads from the 4.1 folder. Does that downgrade from my current 4.3 menu to 4.1?

Yes. This part is optional, but recommended. If you have any more questions, it would be better to ask them in the guide.

You shouldn't have to downgrade. I didn't follow the guide so I'm not quite sure what wads your looking at. A forum member here helped me since I'm a newbie, but I'm learning and things are fresh. I didn't downgrade. Just saying. What have you done/installed so far?

@bmarlo why would downgrading the system menu be recommended?

SM 4.2, and 4.3 offer no more benefit than 4.1. System menu 4.2, and 4.3 where released by Nintendo to be Homebrew killers. Also, SM 4.3 removes region free.
That's the short of it, and why we recommend SM 4.1, but let me state again, this step is optional. If you don't wish to do it, then don't. But SM 4.1 is the recommended SM.

True., but priiloader can take care of region settings for channels and games as well as other things. If your going to install it anyways, why bother downgrading?

Not really trying to make a dispute. As you said, downgrading is optional.

Another useful thing to note about the 4.1 SM in the any wii guide is that it's version number is elevated way above the current version to prevent Nintendo from stubbing it.
System Menu 4.1 v544## is installed, preventing N updates, restoring region free and bannerbomb.

    But again, It's optional lol.

A backup is a rip you do yourself. Anything else is piracy, which we do not condone.
