Question How to brick-proof a Wii?

What's the best way to configure a Wii as brick-proof as possible? I already have PriiLoader 0.70 installed but my BootMii would only install as IOS.

Well, of course bootmii/boot2 is the best brick protection possible, but this is not an option for you. Priiloader provides decent brick protection, but not against full bricks. So as long as you don't mess with either the system menu or the system menu IOS, priiloader will protect you. It's also wise to check whether you disabled updates. Updating from Nintendo can be dangerous in some situations.

Aside from priiloader, the softmod any wii guide also offers some brick protection. It makes it harder for Nintendo to update and prevents Nintendo from stubbing certain IOS'. It is also able to prevent some upgrade/downgrade bricks, as well as error #003. It also provides some extra brick recovery options using savemiifrii.

Another great way to recover you wii from a brick is a NAND back-up. It may not protect you from a brick, but will enable you to restore it.
Awesome sig picture does not work

Umm, you cant restore a nand backup from priiloader...only with bootmii. And the only way priiloader gets removed is if you go cowboying with themes and/or change system menu versions

Maybe I'm wrong, i've never HAD to do this, but I took it as him saying if you hose your system menu, you can use priiloader to boot into homebrew/bootmii and restore your nand from your backup.

If you have to use the HBC to access bootmii, then bootmii is installed as an IOS only, not as boot2 (which would have come up before anything else). Not a good idea to restore a nand backup unless bootmii is installed as boot2.

Starfall is mad old and no longer relevant. Restoring your nand from a bootmii/ios is, while theoretically possible, not recommended. If you're trying to help people, Viper, dont ever recommend that anyone attempt that. The net is that if you can get to HBC you can rebuild whatever got busted.

sorry, but does that mean then, that if you dont have boot 2 you cant restore from a nand back up? just asking as i have a 4.3, and, ive done the guide but didnt update the ios. the guide said i had no need to. then wiimc keept telling me that ios is unsupported and code dumping so i uninstalled and tryed a diff. media loader (cant think of the name now and im not near it) and that plays a bit then returns to settings so i think im going to have to grab the ios update from the guide and try installing them and i was under the impression that if i balls it up i just went into priiloader launch bootmii and put in the back up? not strictly on topic but connected and im trying to learn this properly so thanks for your time

Hi Guys, I'm No Pro. And never had to try Nand backups etc, I have priloader and bootmii, I have modded and updated many consoles 60 + v3.1 <> 4.3 PAL. If you read lots and start to learn more then things you should / Shouldn't do are in the excellent tutorials. As said by many mods. If it's not broken, don't fix it....Read Read Read before you risk a brick.
