Can't play retail GC discs on softmodded Wii

    Hi,

I own a few Gamecube titles and have never had any luck playing them on my Wii. There have been several threads on this subject on this forum, but none seem to be similar to my case. The various tutorials on the subject did not help. I'd appreciate any assistance

My Wii is a Korean model (serial# LKM...) with system menu 4.0U, and was softmodded before I received it. Homebrew Channel is installed, using which I've installed NeoGamma R9 b56, d2x56v7final (249). I don't know if any boot modifier is installed (how do I find out?), and as long as I'm playing Wii titles the unit is capable of playing both backed up and retail discs, as well as via USB or SD with no problems.

When NeoGamma tries to load a GC disc, however, it recognizes the title and starts the loading process as usual, but once it switches to the game's video mode, it gets stuck at a black screen and stays there. At that point all I can do is power cycle. Changing various settings in NeoGamma made no difference. I've also tried other loaders: TinyLoader halts and shows a red bar; SoftChip shows an exception dump screen and halts; the Disc Channel is useless and doesn't recognize any disc, ever, whether Wii or GC, retail or not.

I have performed the steps in the Play GameCube Backups on Your Wii tutorial, including installing MIOSv10, with no results. I've also tried using CleanRip to copy the discs to an SD, then load via DML (either through NeoGamma or WiiFlow) with the same negative results.

Is there anything else I can try?

    Thanks!

Here is the Sysinfo output. It hangs my system if I try to run a full scan (and apparently I'm not the only one with this problem, except older versions don't work either), so since I can only scan individual IOS's I chose to scan MIOS.

    sysCheck v2.1.0b16 by Double_A and R2-D2199
    ...runs on IOS58 (rev 6175).

    Region: NTSC-U (original region: KOR)
    System Menu 4.0U (v417)

    Drive date: 2008.07.14
Homebrew Channel 1.0.8 running on IOS58
    Hollywood v0x21
    Console ID: 87360168
    Boot2 v4
    Found 91 titles.
Found 46 IOS on this console. 3 of them are stub.

    MIOS v65535

Problem solved! Apparently I needed a component named BC (NUS Downloader, Database > System > BC). Also, it seems that the most reliable loader is WiiFlow, successfully loading games that NeoGamma and GC Backup Launcher failed on. Hope this helps someone..

Thanks for finishing with your results.

No enough people do that anymore.

It just floods google with dead end forum post.

I am currently searching how to add GC games to my external. There was a site called A Pirates Book that was sweet. It had this on there....but they seem to be gone? They really had everything laid out perfect.

You can not load Gamecube backups from an external drive without a hardmod. Like Wode or Sundriver.
