A man with 31 previous convictions was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday in relation to the theft of a laptop and Nintendo Wii from a youth centre in Castlebar.
Joe Kavanagh, 88 Glen Fort, Castlebar pleaded guilty to the incident which occurred on September 16 2010. The defendant’s fingerprints had been found at the scene.
According to his solicitor, Lynda Lenehan, Kavanagh said that he would have €1,000 in court to pay for the items stolen, however he did not have the money at Wednesday’s sitting. The court heard that following a row with his partner Kavanagh is now homeless and had intended to do a runner from the country, however he decided that he wanted to face the charges.
Judge Mary Devins remanded him in custody for sentencing to Ballina District Court on Tuesday for sentencing.
