This year has been a pretty slow one if you are a Nintendo Wii owner, but more or less everyone was waiting for one game from Nintendo this year, Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword. According to Nintendo, Skyward Sword is now the fastest selling Zelda game in the franchises history, and this also includes Legends of Zelda Ocarina of Time.
The game has already sold 535,000 copies in the United States alone and I would hazard to guess as we get closer to Christmas it will sell a lot more. In addition, the Nintendo 3DS has also been selling very well; sales for the 3DS are “up 325% since the first week of November.”
Part of the reason for this is most likely Super Mario 3D Land, which became the fastest selling Mario portable title ever. The game has sold 500,000 copies since its’ release.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime had this to say:
“What this has been able to do is drive our Nintendo 3DS business in only eight months to surpass the full first year volume of the original DS and we still have the bulk of the holiday to go,”
